(if you find this funny, like this post)
(disclaimer: this is all fictional)
I time-travelled to 2050 and checked the Golly 18.pi Pattern Collection. Unfortunately, most of the text is redacted to prevent time-travel paradoxes.
Some little gems I found:
Code: Select all
#N elementary-camelship.rle
#O tessaron_parker, 17 July 2037
#C This is the first elementary camelship found so far. With a speed
#C of (3,1)c/8, it is by far the fastest of its velocity. Several
#C other larger ships of this velocity have been found.

x = 82, y = 247, rule = B3/S23
<REDACTED>
Code: Select all
#N silk_road.rle
#O Various, collected on 4 May 2046
#C This RLE is called “Silk Road” due to the several knightships and
#C camelships in it. It is a period-152468467356 oscillator which
#C consists of various spaceship converters.
#C The spaceships converted are the glider, LWSS, Schick engine,
#C 46P4H1V0, lobster, loafer, copperhead, flying saucer,
#C 2-engine Cordership, walrus, seal, Sir Robin, caterpillar,
#C 2340P8H3V1, and (34,7)c/156 caterpillar in that order. Each
#C spaceship is converted into a glider before it is converted
#C to the next spaceship.

And some OCA goodies as well. I mainly looked into the Factorio file. (I hear they are liking me even in 2050 - a good sign?)
Code: Select all
#N factoriopatterncollection.rle
#O Various, collected on 20 Mar 2050 by H. H. P. M. P. Cole
#C To commemorate the birthday of H. H. P. M. P. Cole a great
#C present was created – that of the Definite Factorio
#C Oscillator Collection. It has been proven omniperiodic in
#C 2049, with the discovery of the odd-period AbhpzTa-FWKnightship
#C loop.
#C Reference: <REDACTED>
x = 7504, y = 3046, rule = R3,C0,S2,B3,N+
<REDACTED>
Code: Select all
#N elephantship.rle
#O xjq, 29 Feb 2032
#C This ship is made out of what is colloquially called
#C Durnak plasma - an aperiodic agar of 25% density.
#C The strange thing is that Durnak plasma can come in all forms,
#C and one of the more striking of them is this (8,3)c/79 spaceship.

Computing power in 2050 has grown to such a point that one can simulate the giant "Silk Road" pattern on a personal quantum computer. Scientists are still figuring out how to squash that much computing power into the size of an atom, as they found it was theoretically possible.
I have seen the Forums of 2050. It has reached over 1,000,000 members. Apparently after hopping out of the time travel machine I saw an older version of myself at a table, posting a new discovery. After the older version of me had gone away (to do some errands), I created a new account and posted a question under the username "retardationfactor".
I asked about the current status of CGOL. Freywa's son, "Parcly Taxel II", had replied me, stating that all the SKOPs had less than or equal to 104 cells, CGOL was proven omnivelocital, and a technology developed in 2031 which was a simple and fast pi to loafer+copperhead had been discovered and used to make loafer guns of all periods.
The predominant spaceship-based technologies in 2050 no longer include the glider; they mainly utilize it as an intermediate to convert between the Big Five: loafer, copperhead, 2EC, caravan (30P5H2V0), and flying saucer (25P3H1V0.1). All the conduits using standard inputs were found using ConduitForce in 2039.
Oscillators had become commonplace and no one bothered looking for them anymore, as they are as easy to find in 2050 as SLs are in 1990. However, oscillator synthesis has improved immensely. All SKOPs are less than 104 cells. Technology with speeds of c/2o, c/3o, c/4o, c/4d, and c/10o was considered trivial by then.
On the topic of SL synthesis, a finite set of synthesizable components has been found which can synthesize all but the unsynthesizable SLs.
However, the most striking thing was when I found out ConwayLife.com had split into several websites. It, in 2050, was reserved only for general discussion, hence there is also ConwayLifeShips.com, ConwayLifeSpaceshipTech.com, and ConwayLifeConvertersandTech.com.
OCA had moved to another site, OcaBoard.com. The new OCA exploration of 2050 has moved on from INT (since INT is so vanilla by then) and into HROT/HROT weighted and Multistate. Unfortunately the two parties are still arguing over which of their rulespaces have more developed technology.
There is a dedicated site for all things Factorio, much like where CGOL is at now. It was named after me and the site had the name ColeFactorio.com. Other sites have been named after their CA, including YoelHexogen.com, HaycatGrounded.com, CloseLifeVariants.com, and some more.
The 'Maximum number of 4-cell oscillators' game has been solved with a nonexplosive rule which has 1,046 4-cell oscillators. The root rule is a weighted rule in range-19 which has 276 of them, and it is not based off Factorio (like most of the earlier results).
Finally, Dave Greene's nonalogy/ennealogy (is that a word?) of books has been completed and released to the world.
