A nice rule with some objects becoming less rare, like eaters. Also, still lifes with dots abound:

Code: Select all

x = 14, y = 6, rule = B3-r/S023
13bo$o$2bo$b2o8b3o$11bobo$11bobo!
And a sweet p9:

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 1, rule = B3-r/S023
6o!
EDIT: It also preserves the glider; however, the Herschel goes for 1102 generations:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3-r/S023
o$3o$obo$2bo!
...and not the LWSS, for obvious reasons:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 4, rule = B3-r/S023
3bo$4bo$o3bo$b4o!
EDIT 2: Really slow eater:

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 16, rule = B3-r/S023
5bo$4bo$4b3o8$o$o$o$o$o$o!
Non-trivial p9:

Things to work on:

- EPE improvements.

While trying to think how to make an "Irrational-Speed" ship, I made this rule:

var b = a

var g = a
var h = a

var i = {1,2,3,4,5,6,7}

var m = i

The rule has a strange-growing ship, that almost certainly limits at C/Infinity, but I am not 100% sure:

Code: Select all

x = 2, y = 3, rule = Irrational
AD$B$C!
Maybe if the back end could move faster somehow, it could create a ship whose speed limits at some irrational number?

You can't have any sort of finite pattern with an irrational speed, because any pattern that stays under a given size has an upper bound on its period and must travel an integer Manhattan distance in the meantime.
However, there may be ways to create patterns with irrational limiting speeds either in the front or back ends, and the simplest way I can think of to do this would be to create what would essentially be a tag-system simulator, with characters being read off the back of a tape and appending corresponding strings to the front. As long as the lengths that are removed/appended vary between tape characters and the limiting ratios of character frequencies are irrational, this should result in "half-irrational" speeds. A good starting point for such a system might be the infinite Fibonacci word.
LifeWiki: Like Wikipedia but with more spaceships. [citation needed]

The maximum period for any pattern that stays in a finite bounding box is
(total number of states, including dead)^(total number of cells of all states in the bounding box, including dead),
where "^" represents exponentiation.

Which is why the pattern in the demonstration grows, an attempt to make the limiting speed some irrational number. It obviously didn't work, but it was just a test anyway. This rule has a MUCH slower decrease in speed:

Code: Select all

Still not limiting at any positive speed, but it is kind of neat anyway.

I manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules. I also wrote EPE, a tool for searching in the INT rulespace.

Things to work on:
- Find (7,1)c/8 and 9c/10 ships in non-B0 INT.
- EPE improvements.

I was thinking something along the lines of CollatzFuse, where the speed of the tape doesn't vary with length.
The backend would travel at c/2 but as long as each character appends a string at least two characters long, then given the proper substitution rules the frontend will travel some irrational speed greater than c/2.
LifeWiki: Like Wikipedia but with more spaceships. [citation needed]

In another attempt, the rate of decrease in speed of this pattern is so slow that after a 1,000,000 + generations, it still moves at around C/35:

It seems to be an inverse exponential decrease in speed, which I think is a first.

Finally, I found a rule with two knightship slopes! (8,20)c/58 and (6,9)c/24, with the former being more common oddly. This rule also has two c/8's, a few c/6's, a 6c/14, and a looot of c/2's. I will apgsearch this after I set up my new computer.

I noticed that the rake shoots copies of the spaceship that the rake is made out of, therefore a breeder can be made. Maybe we could make a hydra?

A rule that is so glider-full, it's hard to believe it's stable. Here's a different one. It goes south:

The reaction second from the right is very nice and was found by accident. However, I currently lack any method of getting gun periods higher than p72.

Goldtiger997,

A knight ship gun! Well done. Is this the first such gun discovered in the Non-totalistic rule family?

Please add your gun to the collection here:

Here's a way to triple the 6c/14 gun period:

Definitely not.

This could lead to a gun, some different phases can be used to yield other gliders but none work:

You need the diagonal collisions too. Here is a 4-glider (not possible from infinity) explosion:
