This one is really nice! I like the way the central area gradually gets cleaned out over time, rather than just filling with impenetrable junk as usually seems to happen. After a while, fresh copies of the original explosion can get started in the cleared-out spaces, and they actually run for quite a while sometimes.
I've been thinking that several more examples of interesting non-trivial replicator-y rules should get included in the Non-Totalistic folder for Golly 2.9. Mind if I throw this one in there with your name on it? What are some other isotropic rules with imperfect-but-good replicators?
(Actually, at this point maybe separate folders for "Isotropic" and "Anisotropic" non-totalistic rules would be good -- but that's another problem for another week, I think.)
EDIT: Also, nice coincidence in the other rule in your post -- a completely alien period-30 glider gun, alien gliders and all, made out of two shuttles. Looks like it could have been discovered by Bqifll Goqskpezzr from the third planet circling Proxima Centauri, if their John Conway equivalent had picked a more complicated rule to call "Conqwxay's Lzifke".
Four-gzlider synthesis of the gun:
Code: Select all
x = 19, y = 48, rule = B2e3ai4r/S23-a4-r6
2o$bo$o3$17b2o$17b2o$17bo29$17bo$17b2o$17b2o7$o$bo$2o!
EDIT: And there's a p30 bi-gun variant:
Code: Select all
x = 21, y = 48, rule = B2e3ai4r/S23-a4-r6
19b2o$18b3o9$2o$2o$bo29$bo$2o$2o3$18b3o$19b2o!
Also, it seems to be Random Coincidence Day: if you remove the "6" from the rule, you get...
Code: Select all
x = 24, y = 10, rule = B2e3ai4r/S23-a4-r
21b3o$2o21bo$o22bo$o20b3o$2o3$9bo$9b3o$11bo!
... a period-46 gun.
(There's probably one without the extra still life, but I was in a hurry.)
(Is this a known rule after all, and someone has found these already?)
EDIT2: Yup, here's the plain p46 gzlider gun, starting with the 4-gzlider synthesis, in the modified rule:
Code: Select all
x = 32, y = 22, rule = B2e3ai4r/S23-a4-r
