Wow, look at what just turned up in Day & Night - this beautiful xq120:

So I found a tiny spark that looks kind of like a spaceship, and a reaction that kind of looks like to could be made into a very high period oscillator:

Code: Select all

x = 81, y = 74, rule = B3678/S34678

Actually come to think of it, this reaction is pretty common, it just depends if the length of the line is odd or even:

This c/2 xq2 showed up in a C1 soup for the first time:

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 8, rule = B3678/S34678
4b3o$2bob2o$b6obo$8o$8o$b6obo$2bob2o$4b3o!
This is a variant of this xq2; basically the same ship, just a bit fatter.

I don't think these have names yet, but I've come to refer to the smaller one as "the bug", so I'm gonna start calling the new one "the fat bug".

Looking at a random linear-growth object for Day & Night, yl420_4_66_5f8dc933026ba3685555d9440ec81f6e, I noticed that it's actually a puffing ship:

Code: Select all

x = 103, y = 18, rule = B3678/S34678

Should investigate the rest as well, I suppose. ;)

EDIT: I've looked at a few more. yl3960_4_694_b4deaedfba6ae38467eb6bbe6afa319b, yl3260_2_387_1d6a4a243ec3ad23035c3cdedae16f0d and yl2860_4_961_7201e249a122272b0eb82d6ac9c8acad are all puffing ships, while yl2460_12_35287_d7b2d9e29a07acb103470d164f37d6a7 is a growing puffing ship.

New c/7 ships, maybe? Curiously, the bigger one has the same front and end as the smaller.

Ship 1 and Ship 3 are identical, by the way -- hence why your URLs are the same. :)

Sorry, I included two copies of the one ship to make comparing the front and back ends easier.
Here's a p6 thing that I'm hoping also is new. Stabilization could probably be improved.

Nice! The c/7 is the same as the one Josh Ball posted here, but the rest are new to me.

The (extended) apgcodes for those are:

B1e2cn3acjkr4cny5einqy6ei7c/S01e2-ei3acjkr4-ejr5einqy6-cn7c8 is the rule, I believe.
I manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules. I also wrote EPE, a tool for searching in the INT rulespace.

Things to work on:
- Find (7,1)c/8 and 9c/10 ships in non-B0 INT.
- EPE improvements.

This upper wall stabilized in a random soup. The bottom is man made.

Code: Select all

I couldn't find anything for (ntzfind) w7 k1 p8 v because I forgot to set l1000 and ended up with this

Code: Select all

I would suggest using qfind for this rule. For a given search there seem to be many ways to extend a partial result, but not many ways to complete the ship. As a result, zfind ends up spending a lot of time on very long dead ends. You might be able to find a ship with zfind by setting a maximum length ('m' command), but if you don't know the minimum length of a c/8 ship you run the risk of setting this too short and missing the ship.

I just finished the p8 k1 w6 v search with qfind which reached a depth of about 1120 without finding any ships. I strongly suspect that the w7 search would find a ship in a reasonable amount of time (less than a week).
