Another three months of exploring Factorio resulted, inevitably, in more discoveries. Frankly I thought the rate of discoveries would be much higher, but that's Life for you. (ba dum tsss)
NEW DEVELOPMENTS
1 Jan: squareroot12621 posted a
proof that all 2xn soups cannot allow for vertical growth.
8 Jan: Two faster diagonal ships, both c/2d, were
found by AlephAlpha.
18 Jan: H. H. P. M. P. Cole posted
new factorial shuttles based on the relatively-old
FWKnightship reaction, allowing more periods of oscillators to be known.
2 Feb:The first
enumeration of small objects in Factorio has been completed by H. H. P. M. P. Cole.
26 Feb: A proof that
there are only four finite width-2 strict SLs in Factorio is completed by H. H. P. M. P. Cole (in the post linked, the proof is in edit 3).
6 Mar: All 16 standard symmetries have been
apgsearched, as well as 1x256, 2x128, iC1, and i1x256.
17 Mar: A sizable amount of
new c/2o ships were discovered by lemon41625 and H. H. P. M. P. Cole (the latter using a search tool by AlephAlpha)
22 Mar: An
ever-growing shuttle - a factorialship between four c/3o ships, was constructed by H. H. P. M. P. Cole (the construction is in edit 2). A version with one half stationary was constructed shortly after.
23 Mar: H. H. P. M. P. Cole found
several c/3o ships that might possibly hint at a possible chemistry for c/3o ships.

NEW CONJECTURES AND THEOREMS
c/2d is the lower bound for the diagonal speed limit.
There are no p2 oscillators with rotor 1 cell (there is only one survival condition, so if a cell gets born, the cells which survived from generations 0 to 1 will die in generation 2, unless there are other rotor cells).
TODO:
- find a p2 with a non-constant population (or prove that there are none)
- find more periods of height-2 oscillators (or prove that there are no more)
- find more periods of oscillators in B3/S2V for emulation (or prove that there are no more)
- find a statored nontrivial p6
- find new periods (ideally prime), sparkers, and hasslers
- find a stable eater for the factorialship
- make an Amling or jslife-style collection of small non-c/1o ships (c/2o and c/3o are partially complete)
- find a slow orthogonal ship (c/5o or slower, ideally has powerful sparks on the front and back which have high horizontal clearance)
- find new speeds (maybe a knightship?)
- find common evolutionary sequences in Factorio
Engineering challenge:
- find infinite growth of any kind (particularly guns)
