I decided to try some alterations to the genes of the evoloop, and here we have the "devoloop".

It produces an offspring that is larger than the parent. In a finite universe, this is not enough to avoid the inevitable domination of smaller loops. In an infinite universe, the center becomes crowded with small loops, but anti-evolving loops continue for tens of thousands of generations even far away from the edge (at the edge, of course, nothing stops the loops from growing larger).

This raises the question of whether or not it is possible to construct a loop with a mutation that persists. Also, (this has probably been posed before) but is it possible to have a self-replicating non-square loop?

I also found a method to produce higher period oscillators in less space than a single big loop:

By adding a third turning gene, the daughter loop is destroyed, but not the parent. This could be done with a larger loop for a higher period.

Well I've found that trying to make a loop too big from another makes a little bit of debris that can be used for oscillation in some cases:

BTW, I prefer the original Evoloop to Evoloop-finite, because those blank cells can get annoying.

I found a spaceship one day while messing with the placement of the replicating loops. Its speed is 9c/121.

The .zip file below is the closest I've ever gotten to finding the rule table for it. If someone could check this out for me and give me any possible info on it, that would be great to know, but if this isn't it, I'm not exactly sure where to look next.

After a lot of working with the rule table, and extensive research on cellular behavior from documents I've found, I've been able to create a functioning F-sexyloop rule table, which works according to the articles I've found. Here's the the rule table

Name this F-sexyloop.table. The commas at the end of the lines didn't interfere with me while I was running the rule table, but if a problem occurs, remove them, and then check(662 commas takes a lot of backspaces and time to do). Now here's the colors

Name this F-sexyloop.colors. The files I had didn't supply all the colors with it, so I tried my best to match it up with the ones on the articles(If you want, you can tamper around with the colors). After placing those files under the rule folder, go to http://homepages.feis.herts.ac.uk/~on5a ... LIFE_b.pdf, go to the second-to-last page and compare the first 8 generations of the pattern below with my modified rule table to the 8 steps on that page and tell me what you think(Personally, I'm glad that I got this right :D )

Let me know If there's a minor problem(I'm not an expert in creating rule tables)

EDIT:Looks like there's a problem in the rule table file that I can't seem to fix, the loops can't transfer their genes to other loops, and other errors I can't fix are constantly a problem, If someone can fix the problems with the rule table, I'd be really thankful(the commas at the end of the lines don't effect the rule whatsoever)

That's the problem I encountered after trying out a properly working loop. The best way to fix this is to edit the ruletable, and since I'm not an expert in building and editing these kind of things, I might not be able to do so by myself. There are 662 rules in the table, so I doubt I can fix any other problems with it anytime soon

By reading the code in F_Sexyloop.java it looks like you need to add extra rules related to state 8.

I've attached a zip file that has a new .table file with those extra rules, and a new .colors file (although I'm still not sure about a couple of states). The zip also has a couple of test patterns from the pdf file you mentioned. The new rule table seems to work correctly.

EDIT: I've deleted the attachment because the rule is NOT correct (see next post).

Not quite. It turns out that the rule_sex file contains some transition rules with duplicate inputs but different outputs. This didn't affect the Java code because the later (correct) rules overrode the earlier rules, but Golly's RuleTable algo uses the first matching rule and so got the wrong output in a few cases. Anyway, with the help of Nicolas Oros I managed to fix this problem and I've uploaded Sexyloop.zip to the Rule Table Repository which you can download from within Golly or from here: http://ruletablerepository.googlecode.c ... xyloop.zip.

Yes there is! Sort of... there is data in the loops, although there isn't much transfer from both. Also, it produces a weird variant that... technically isn't sterile? It shrinks every generation (loop generation, not automata generation.)

It's Basically a normal parent, but it's great great (I have no idea how many greats) grandchildren are insterile?
