May I request replacing the description of LeapLife with a link to my recent post in General Discussions?
Do you mean replacing this:
2) B2n3/S23-q (LeapLife), a near-Life rule with a diverse array of natural oscillators, p22 and p24 tech, and a tiny knightship, by Hunting
to this:
Still needs some sentences but not more than 2-3, as it was proposed by Sokwe in the PotY 2020 Nomination Thread. A summarizing entry seems to be a good idea due that even native English speakers find challenging summarizing, text compression, sorting on relevance and importance. IMHO for certain rules like LeapLife, if it had a dedicated topic, a summary post would be fine - not necessarily the opening post in order to avoid mess.

We should learn a lot from CGoL PotY 2020 organizers, so some thumbs rules are:
  • Two lists of candidates: one with some sentences detailed, one with shortened descriptions / some words per entry - cherry-picking on importance
  • At most two URLs per candidates, preferably one if possible
  • Less is more!
  • Before starting vote, a 90+% fulfilled wiki table with candidates here: OCA Discovery of the Year#2020
I personally was annoyed by the previous description of LeapLife. That makes it sound like an average random rule. LeapLife have a completely different point as pointed out in the article: reproduce the development of Life.

What exactly would you like as a short and long description?

[EDIT] Changed link that was proposed by Hunting!

This change is not what I had in mind - I doubt anyone would read the link if that description is still there. My proposal: Preferably two links, the usual place for links should link to the main thread, and the description should be something like: "Meta-discovery: An attempt to reproduce the development of CGoL (and see how much can we accelerate this process with moderb tools and blueprints) with much success. Detailed progress summary and animation see (link to LeapLife Status Report)".

I wonder if there's time to sneak one more nomination in here before the deadline... I feel like Saka's natural adjustable ships deserve a mention.

(Possible description: "Probably the first adjustable-speed spaceships to have been found naturally rather than constructed, with an unusually complex mechanism for adjustability, by Saka.")

@bubblegum: allowed Saka's natural adjustable ships as 21st entry, see recently updated lifewiki entry here: OCADOTY#2020. I feel biased and confused about my summaries, but feel free to cherry pick parts/wholes from wiki. Typos, missing authors/broken links might occur. Last chance before launching 1+month voting session!

@Hunting: Updated wiki entry, also now with two links - main LeapLife topic OP and the video summary!

Spearheaders TOTALISTIC - independent for centre cell - Life-like B0-rule with circuitry:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4705&p=103659#p103659
Spearheaders was meant to refer to the class of spaceships, not the rule (although I never named the rule).
I am tentatively considering myself back.

Oh, thanks! Feel free to recompose the entry's description both at wiki and here!

Due to the moderate interests, announcement and voting will be delayed after the end of CGoL POTY2020.

Messing around with the Symbiosis description.

20. New developments in Symbiosis, including a vast array of oscillators and guns, conduits, lightspeed signal circuitry and a unique MSM breeder. Guns include true-period-14 glider guns, pseudo-period-13 alternating color glider guns, and direct LWSS guns at P52, as well as a P53 MWSS gun, and a P27 HWSS gun that can be modified with catalysts to yield even more periods of various XWSSes. Conduits include EV2's RF27P_RB24LWSS, which can release an LWSS in passing.

20. New developments in Symbiosis, including a vast array of oscillators and guns, lightspeed signal circuitry and a unique MSM breeder. Developments still continue today.

I would probably type something like circuitry using a class of patterns called spearheaders in the truly outer-totalistic rule B01245S01245. However, looking at the thread again, there's not much of what I would consider circuitry, e.g. no logic gates. I was able to find a collision allowing an AND NOT gate fairly quickly.

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 22, rule = B01245/S01245
4b3o$3bob2o2b2o$3b7o$3bob2o2b2o$4b3o10$b3o$obobo$5o$5o$2bo$2bo$b3o$bobo!
However, that and anything else that I discover from here on out wouldn't be applicable to this competition (although I might investigate that rule more now since I don't think taht it has been investigated to its full potential).
I am tentatively considering myself back.

Today is the last day for you to submit more entries, voting will hopefully open at an unspecified time tomorrow.
Each day is a hidden opportunity, a frozen waterfall that's waiting to be realised, and one that I'll probably be ignoring
