I only just discovered this thread a few days ago. There's a lot of good work here! Congratulations, all!
I found several synthesis improvements, two of which I think are new: Beehive w/tail from 5 (improved cleanup), and Toad from 3 (new). Also, pentadecathlon can be made more quickly by edge-shooting two stars together.

Joking aside, nice work you have done there. My main interest is the 3G toad (which finally found a use for the most messy 2G collision). How did you find it?

Thanks. I'm pretty old school. I started exploring rules by hand long before we had the tools to (say) automatically run thousands of three-glider collisions. So my usual M/O is to run a few random soups to identify "obvious" cheap gliders (not necessary here), and then try all two-glider collisions, yielding a set of buildable objects/patterns (including constellations that don't release gliders). Then, if desired, all collisions of a single glider into all of those, to yield an incomplete set of 3-glider objects (which is where this toad came from). This can be repeated with additional gliders until one is bored, or until one finds objects where this is painful to do (e.g. in one of my rules, I have a P280 (mod 70) rotating shuttle, and enumerating all one-glider collisions into every phase that was maddengly tedious). I think the toad was the only thing I found in this rule this way that wasn't already either known, or obsolete. Sometimes doing the same with muliple symmetrically-placed gliders around symmetrical objects can also yield interesting results in some rules.

Due to my suspicious lack of time, we still don't have a syntheses database at the time of writing. How did you manage to get your CGoL syntheses catalog sorted? Some kind of script?

Actually, I'm 64 (and thus a good test subject for the associated Beatles' song).
As I recall, my friend Dave Buckingham had come over, and we were playing with Life (I think with tokens on a chessboard or go board - it's hard to remember specific details 50 years ago!), and we were playing with trying to eat a pentadecathlon. We spent a few hours on it, but couldn't find a solution. He left to walk home, and solved it in his head along the way, and was about to call me to tell me about it, when I called him to tell him that I had also solved it (and the result was the Snacker). He later found the Lonely Bee by himself.
I'm not absolutely sure who found the toad hassling mechanism, but I think it might have been Dean Hickerson.
Buckingham spent a lot of time working on TL hasslers; that was another unsolved problem at the time, but he eventually found ways to stabilize the period 14 and period 15 pushes, giving P28 and P30 oscillators, and later, how to combine them to P29 (in the original four-engine circular form, that others later reduced to dimers and monomers).
Bill Gosper found that it was possible to use a spark to re-phase the pentadecathlon from period 15 to 14 (resulting in a "tetradecathlon"), and combining that with a P29 TL hassler gave a pentadecathlon that made two domino sparks every 29 generations.
By combining two such P29 pentadecathlon hasslers, one can hassle a toad in anyone of the five standard ways, to double the period. Since toads are only affected by sparks in even generations, each period, one of the two sparks is irrelevant and harmless. Because there is an appropriate spark every cycle, this combination doubles the period, rather than quadrupling it, which is normally what happens with odd-period hasslers (like the Snacker). (Something similar happens when you use figure-8s; each spark comes back and hassles the toad twice, so the period is not doubled).

I've started to compile a similar database of syntheses for this rule. It took me a while to go through 30 pages of conversation. I have attribution information for a lot of the syntheses, but in some cases, it may be incomplete (e.g. when somebody posts a collection of dozens of syntheses, and about half of them are known, it seems like a synopsis of what has been found previously, and it's not clear whether the other half were new or I just missed their original discoveries).

I've started to compile a similar database of syntheses for this rule. It took me a while to go through 30 pages of conversation. I have attribution information for a lot of the syntheses, but in some cases, it may be incomplete (e.g. when somebody posts a collection of dozens of syntheses, and about half of them are known, it seems like a synopsis of what has been found previously, and it's not clear whether the other half were new or I just missed their original discoveries).
