It is unloopable, but that is the most important thing in consideration of who doesn't know the only consistent definition of RRO that deals with loopability (the loopability requirement is inconsistent because drc once called a loopability 2 RRO fake).

How is it not an RRO? An RRO is a reflectorless rotating oscillator. Reflectorless, check. Rotating, check. Oscillator, well I'll leave that one up to you. Pinwheel's stator is its reflector, and the loop is too small for another copy to even possibly fit in it, let alone loop, so pinwheel is a degenerate rotating oscillator (the entire oscillator rotates but even people who think the first R stands for reflectored wouldn't count this as an RRO).

I'm not commenting on the last one.

You misunderstand. The pinwheel's dual rotors rotate around a point practically on the live cells. There's at least room for the p552's track to fit two copies in theory, even though they don't in practice. And if you can't tell that the mazings in 69 are reflectors, I'm seriously doubting whether you are a person or a chatbot.

Well now that I can't convince you with simplified logic anymore, I'll just reroute you to the definition of RRO that includes loopability and was not misinterpreted by drc to only count loopability 4 RROs:

Now since I think it counts while something like clock 2 doesn't, I've divided all rotating oscillators into these groups:

EDIT: a is 90 for square grids, 30 or 60 for tri/hex, etc. and loopability does not matter. We already have enough degenerate cases.

-Non-rotating oscillators: Oscillators which rotate 360 degrees at once. AKA oscillators which do not rotate, for example Tanner's p46.
-Degenerate flipping oscillators: Oscillators which reflect themselves over one or two axes intersecting the flipping part or rotate 180 degrees at once around a point on the rotating part without reflectors, for example the tumbler.
-Reflected flipping oscillators: Oscillators which get reflected or rotated 180 degrees, for example the twin bees shuttle.
-Debris-leaving flipping oscillators: Oscillators which reflect or rotate themselves 180 degrees leaving debris behind that is cleaned up after the cycle it was left.
-Reflectorless flipping oscillators: Oscillators which reflect or rotate themselves 180 degrees cleanly.
-Degenerate rotating oscillators: Oscillators which rotate themselves a around a point close to the middle of the rotating part (not the rotor, the alive rotating part).
-Reflected rotating oscillators: Oscillators which get rotated a degrees, for example gourmet.
-Debris-leaving rotating oscillators: Oscillators which rotate themselves a degrees leaving debris behind that is cleaned up after the cycle it was left. The pond-leaving RRO is a DLRO while Hdjen's quad-block-leaving RRO is a true RRO due to cleaning its debris up on the same relative cycle.
-Reflectorless rotating oscillators: Oscillators which rotate themselves a degrees cleanly.
And if you don't want to accept this, I can continue ad hominem as long as my keyboard continues to function. Just a warning.

That's your definition. Everyone still uses the loopable definition until now.
The loopable definition is actually only for oscillators which can fit 2 in, and
1) an RRO fitting 1 and 3 but not 2 is definitely loopable, but is not an RRO according to the definition,
2) drc's "fake" 2-loopable but not 4-loopable RRO.

Now I do believe you are correct to an extent, and this is the only reason I'm still arguing this with you instead of coming back to ad hominem like a [REDACTED].

Well, you have oscillators like these, that can't loop, but seem, to me, to otherwise act like RROs in every other way possible.

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = B2ce3ainq4cekqz5qy/S23-a4ceky5e
b3o$o2bo$bobo$b3o!

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 10, rule = B2i3-cejq4-aijkr5-ekny6-ek78/S2-k3-ijqy4aerwyz5cejnq6cek
2b2o$2b2o6$3o$obo$3o!
These are not RROs according to the standard definition anyway, or at most a "fake RRO".

How about "RRO of loopability 1" like the other commonly-used name, because that's something everyone (except maybe you) can get behind?

Reflectorless means "with no objects that interact with one unit of the rotating engine and eventually repeat the reaction without going through an intermediate stage of vacuum." The ones going through vacuum are debris-leaving RROs, the ones without extraneous objects (the period is the cycle period of the engine) are true RROs and the ones with said reflectors are degenerate ROs.

That's confusing and not very objective. What are the outside-RROs in the meta-RRO? Are they debris or reflector or?

Sorry, I meant "the ones cleaned up on a separate cycle are debris-leaving, the ones without extraneous objects requiring cleanup on a separate cycle (the period is the cycle period of the engine) are true RROs", and since the period of the meta-RRO's engine is 24 ≠ 552, DLRO (loopability-1 assumed).
