Could this be used in a HBK-esque construction?

That's 2 gliders input (one for the reaction, one to "fix" the boat) for each 1 glider output. I'll have to say no.

Code: Select all

x = 20, y = 7, rule = tlife

Are there any good ways to rub them together to get a usable output, though?

Only today have I started exploring this rule and I find it extremely interesting!! However, with regards to syntheses, I would like to know whether the norm will be to do them with gliders or with T-ships; I have realised that in the last few pages, gliders are used, but better check just in case.

Polyomino decays into two T-ships:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 7, rule = tlife
o$8o$7bo$7bo$7bo$7bo$7bo!
G+2T synthesis of cap*:

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 13, rule = tlife
6b3o$7bo3$2bo$3o$2bo4$9b2o$9bobo$9bo!
which eats gliders:

Code: Select all

x = 20, y = 15, rule = B3/S2-i34q
19bo$17b2o$18b2o9$o2bo$o2bo$o2bo$b2o!
*Again, another particular aspect... the limit for a simultaneous union of gliders in normal GoL is 4, one per direction. If T-ships are used, or gliders, for that matter, is the limit then 8? Both gliders and T-ships are common, so regarding my initial question, I think that both syntheses would be interesting, especially so for spaceships because the guns would probably use both.

2G+T --> 2T (somewhat closely spaced, so -might- be useful)

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 10, rule = tlife
bo$2bo$3o6bo$8b2o$9bo3$8bo$7b2o$7bobo!

In creating the synthesis database I decided to use Life's gliders as the unit of measurement. That being said, Ts still do show up as parts of syntheses, just counted as 2 gliders because that's what it takes to make them.
You could definitely build anything in the database starting with only Ts, but you'd end up converting a lot of them into gliders.

I disagree with the counting of Ts as 2G. While it is true that it takes two gliders to make a T, the same could be said in reverse. Ts are about as easy, if not easier, to create than gliders, and there are many more elementary T guns than glider guns. Catagolue shows that Ts are approximately 2.5% more common than gliders. All that said, however, gliders seem to be easier to use in syntheses, so it could go either way, I suppose.

Another thing I wonder about is whether ants should be counted as 2 gliders instead of three, but that seems like a harder case to make.

What the?! That's crazy, nice job.

As for whether T's should count as one glider, I still think (as I did when I discovered/"created" the rule) that they're common enough to warrant it; I wasn't the one finding+cataloging most of the syntheses, however, so that wasn't enforced very well at all.

Granted - it's really not efficient, but it's a very odd synthesis of the p160:

Code: Select all

I highly recommend you to check this link before posting syntheses like this. The same idea applies to normal Conway's Game of Life; unless it is cheaper than the previous syntheses, or edgeshoots it in some way, it isn't really all that notable.

Strange T-ship interference reaction, is synthesis of the bottom one possible in that position?

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 9, rule = tlife

If so, it can be used to develop an AND gate.

I was hoping for something like this:

Code: Select all

x = 28, y = 13, rule = tlife

This seems somewhat promising... I'll just put it out here (Look at gen 57):

Code: Select all

x = 53, y = 36, rule = tlife

EDIT:

This works, but the bun is hard to insert:

S - tlife (B3/S2-i34q)

Post by Rhombic » August 13th, 2016, 9:56 am

Funny S + block --> ant + T-ship reaction. Might be useless, but a well-timed synthesis of the block would allow a peculiar double-barreled gun.

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 14, rule = B3/S2-i34q
9b2o$9b2o9$bo$b2o$o2bo$2bo!
Another funny reaction, S+T-->G

Code: Select all

x = 14, y = 10, rule = B3/S2-i34q
13bo$12b2o$13bo4$bo$b2o$o2bo$2bo!
Reflecting:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 18, rule = B3/S2-i34q

Well now we have an S-to-A and S-to-T, which means that all we really need is an X-to-S.
That being said, I'm not sure if any of the applicable scripts are applicable to rules other than Life...
