Unusual Gun

An archive, "Hexagonal Grid.zip", containing a collection of patterns for a rule that can be run on a hexagonal grid is here:

http://bprentice.webenet.net/Hexagonal%20Cell/

The collection contains an unusual irregular gun, G005.hxc. An oscillator O004.hxc, with a similar structure, has a period of 4088.

These patterns may be run on my Java Hexagonal Cell simulator which is included in "Hexagonal Cell.zip". This archive contains the Java source code and the executable file HexagonalCell.jar.

"Java Square Cell.html", which is also included in the above directory, briefly tells how to use my Java Square Cell simulator. Hexagonal Cell uses the same user interface as Square Cell. The main difference is that when editing patterns, selected cells are rotated 60 degrees rather than 90 degrees.

I have added a few more patterns to the archive "Hexagonal Grid.zip". The most notable additions are a new irregular gun and a symmetrical oscillator constructed from six copies of this gun. The gun, G012.hxc, is a smaller version of G005.hxc mentioned in my earlier post. The oscillator, O012.hxc, has a period of 5424. This can be easily checked by setting the world to 220 columns by 240 rows, loading O012.hxc, clearing the selection and clicking the button showing the simple Star Wars ship topped by a right pointing arrow. This button also has a hint "show ship, oscillator or still life characteristics".

O009.hxc, a nice period 96 oscillator showing 30 circulating ships has also been added.
