Re: apgsearch v2.2

I once liked this idea so much, I tried to make such a list myself. Although I'd actually prefer to have a complete list of rules ordered by the total number of soups across all symmetries, and the rule pages telling how many soups of each symmetry were searched. Interesting idea. I'd be happy with...

Re: apgsearch v2.2

If I may, here's a couple of suggestions for the Catagolue website, things that would be nice to have, in descending order of importance: 1) A lexicographically-sorted list of all rulestrings/symmetries that have been investigated, i.e. had hauls submitted. 2) Sample soup links broken down by symmet...

Re: How does one start creating stuff here?

Also - I'm still a reasonably technical user. The thought of opening a shell doesn't scare me. I know what a Makefile is. I'd reckon there's a lot of mathematically-inclined folks out there for who this ain't true, and having a binary package of an apgsearch version with a GUI that can easily be in...

Re: How does one start creating stuff here?

Since I'm a newcomer myself, as biggiemac observes, I thought I'd offer my perspective. Conway's Game of Life is fascinating, but it's also utterly intimidating when you look at the state of the art as a beginner. The basics are easy enough to understand; and there's no real barrier to downloading a...

Re: Soup search results

By the way, this puffer pair certainly deserves a name by virtue of being the third naturally-occurring infinite-growth pattern. (Apple Bottom, do you have a name for it?) Aww shucks, let me think about that. How about "the pony express"? I like that mental image of a rider galloping off into the s...

Re: apgsearch v2.2

Neat, a new variant of the mold showed up last night: https://catagolue.appspot.com/pic/xp4_0o4an7zckld/b3s23 A tremendous 11 ( EDIT: Now 12!) trillion objects! I wonder if we'll ever reach a quadrillion? Only if we manage to get more users on board, I think. And for that I think isaacg's suggestion...

Re: apgsearch v2.2

So I ran an instance on my laptop, didn't have internet connectivity, figured I'd just let it run and keep my Cygwin terminal open until it could post successfully. I checked back in on it and it had segfaulted after its first attempt to authenticate with Catagolue. This instance had been interrupt...

Re: apgsearch v2.2

Here's a patch against 2.2 to save logs locally in addition to uploading them... Ah, I missed this posting. That explains the "v2.3-ab1" hauls in the recent-hauls list. I don't think I'll be keeping apgnano search results on my local system. But maybe this is worth setting up as an official -L swit...

Re: apgsearch v2.2

Where are the progress files for apgnano saved? They don't seem to be in the Golly/apgsearch folder. Please tell me they're at least being saved on my computer. Here's a patch against 2.2 to save logs locally in addition to uploading them: --- apgnano-orig/main.cpp 2015-07-30 14:27:28.755827300 +02...
