oh crap, I didn't copy the whole things correctly. Let me try again:

Code: Select all

x = 14, y = 11, rule = All_Speeds
7.E6$.E10.E$2.E8.E$E.E8.E.E$.E10.E$.E10.E!

No. Just that it works when flipped.
Easy:

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 4, rule = All_Speeds
E9.E$.E7.E$.E.E3.E.E$2.E5.E!

Re: All directions and infinite speeds

This rule is really interesting to mess around with! a simple triplet emits a stream of red cells, and can be turned into different guns. Two most basic examples: x = 21, y = 5, rule = All_Speeds 3.E11.E$2.E.D9.E3.D$E.E4.E4.E.E5.E$.EA2.AE6.E2.A2.E$.E4.E6.E5.E! Additionally, here is a simple (puffer?...

It also has a replicator based puffer and some other stuff with the replicator. Weirdly, some replicator based puffers move at different speeds... The puffers can interact in strange ways as well. For instance, here two puffers interact in a way that looks like it is stable/periodic, albeit very me...

Re: Thread for basic questions

I would like to run APGSearch for extended periods of time, but I have run into an issue with that. If I leave the computer unattended for more than 10 minutes, it goes to sleep and stops searching. How can I run a long search without having to periodically bump the mouse?

B34k5q8/S234cez5k7e: TinLife. I've been running some searches on this rule, mostly because I'm glad to have a rule with a small following so I can feel important about discovering new things. Here is a stamp collection of all oscillators I have found so far that do not function in life (note that t...

Re: apgsearch - haul requests

How many objects can you get to show up at all in b3s/C1? That's not a valid rule, at least according to Golly (or any syntax I've seen) ...then how have people managed to search it and get objects to show up? Well, maybe I'm doing something wrong. Golly can't run that rule in any algorithm. EDIT: ...

Re: Thread for Your Accidental Discoveries that Aren't in CGOL

This ship, dubbed the Serval in the "unrecognized CA" thread, can be reflected by many still lifes, one of which even generates another ship going the opposite way. Is there any way to make these into loops or oscillators? x = 66, y = 14, rule = B34k5q8/S234cez5k7e 7b2o12b2o12b2o12b2o12b2o$6b2obo10b...

So close to being a spaceship:

Re: Hacking apgsearch

Technically isotropic rules are one type of non-totalistic rule -- the symmetrical kind where rotating or reflecting the pattern doesn't make a difference to its evolution. I think this hacked version is still the latest and greatest for isotropic rules, but I haven't been paying very good attentio...

I REALLY don't want to search through this whole thread, so I will ask a stupid question: Is there a way to run non-totalistic rules in APGSearch?

Re: Thread for basic questions

Alright, this will hopefully be my last issue. Sorry for all of these posts. Anyhoo, I don't think that my search hauls are being properly uploaded. I checked my payosha256 tag and it says I have no hauls uploaded, even though I should. What might I be doing wrong?

Re: Thread for basic questions

Alright, another newbie question. I might have a few of these as I am working out how to use APGSearch. I started a search, and set it to report the census after five million soups. However, I am going to have to end the search prematurely, though it is only currently at 2.5 million soups. Is there ...

Thanks! Works like a charm.

Unrelated question: I just finally got APGsearch to work,mbut I can't figure out how to change the symmetries, as it always says the symmetry is invalid. Which symmetries are valid?

Is there a consistent algorithm to create an "inverse" of a rule, i.e. one that has the same behaviour as the original when all "on" cells are turned off and all "off" cells are turned on?

This is a form of the switch engine, which is a puffer engine discovered in the 1980s. There are many known puffers for it. For this reason, I am sorry to say that this is also most likely known.

I have no idea if this is useful or not, but here is a base for a d-pad prototype. placing an on cell in either of the two marked off cells in each direction will result in a block on block a few cells away in that same direction. Again, I have no idea if a block on block can be turned into a usable...

Re: Thread for basic questions

This might be a stupid question, but are there any known constellations that can convert one glider into two gliders in opposite directions but perpendicular to the original glider's path? I don't care if the constellation itself is destroyed in the process.
