Re: Gustavo Ramos Rehermann's patterns

Do you know the magic involved in how the gliders do that? The Game of life is incompatible with magic. Just that 3 gliders => 1 LWSS is very uncommon compared to every other 3G collisions doesn't means some obscure magical forces worked behind it. Here's an example of an event that only happens on...

Or, to avoid using many, many trivial componements in an non-optimized gun, you could do this: x = 67, y = 49, rule = B3/S23 $60b2o$62bob2o$58bo2bo2b2o$58bobo$59bo$24bo$23b2o34b2o$7b2o13b2o4b2o 29b2o$7b3o11b3o4b2o2b2o$2b2o5b2obo9b2o4b2o2b2o$bo2bo4bo2bo10b2o28b3o$ 2b2o5b2obo11bo27bo3bo$7b3o10bo$3bo3b...

I found this odd breeder: x = 7, y = 11, rule = 24_235_4H_O3 4.A$2.4A$2.CAC$2.2C$2.A$.2B$3A$4.2AC$4.BAC$4.BA$4.A! I've never seen anything like this: it uses it's own output to build more rakes. Or now only one glider, plus fourteen small still lifes, thanks to some black magic by Chris Cain: Amazing! Re: apgsearch v1.0

apgsearch does not currently support running a single search on multiple CPU cores. What you're doing by running more searches is applying different copies of apgsearch to different cores, and it sounds like you're running a quad-core computer or better, so you can run 4 searches. Then it's about t...

I have a rather beefy computer, but for some reasons individual searches don't go much further than 250 soups/s. Meanwhile, I can easily run 4 of them (possibly more) without experimenting any lag. Do you know the origin of this problem?

Probably a bit too unwieldy to say, I think? I'd call it a superbeast (obviously after the Number of the Beast...!) Re: Gustavo Ramos Rehermann's patterns

No, EVERY 2G collisions are known. If I'm not mistaken, there are 72 of such. YOu can find them in the "syntheses" folder. If you did so, you would be able to see that there is a way to make a blockade with 2Gs. Finally, there is nothing wrong in taking 2 steps in a synthese, but then you must also ...

In a way, that's true. It's a 5-glider synthesis of some junk... It's... pointless?
If you want glider collisions creating more gliders, how about:

Code: Select all

x = 23, y = 21, rule = B3/S23
2$9bo$8bo$8b3o7$6bo$5b2o$5bobo!
the 2-glider mess

No, they definitely have the same problem: they aren't notable. First thing first, why would you use 4 gliders when 3 are enough? Then the second pattern is quite trivial, so is the third, the fourth (why would ANYONE use it instead of, you know, a little rake with 3 sub-rakes?), and the fifth (to a...
