Re: Thread for basic questions

Are light-speed spaceships/puffers/rakes (or ones faster than c/2) possible? Theoretically an infinitely long orthogonal line would travel at light speed (and also be a replicator), so we could use a line and some other stuff to at least get a faster than _WSS speed ship. Nope, not a finite one. c/...

Indeed, and so are the BLSE/GPSE ones, since Catagolue can't generate yl SVGs. The pufferfish GIF is just extremely poorly made.

Yes, that's what I meant.
Bad question phrasing, I see.

Besides, it's not like names have to be logical or anything. "Eater 1" doesn't mean "Eater the First", it's just its name.

This 10-cell still life is consistently misidentified as PATHOLOGICAL.
The rule is R2, but apgsearch's object separation algorithm mistakenly separates the two parts as if it was R1. Then each half becomes a spaceship and apgsearch panics and slaps PATHOLOGICAL over it.

Re: Thread for basic questions

To clarify, as long as the symmetry is not recognized, the program will read RLEs from stdin instead of generating soups from SHA of a random seed, is that right? Does the symmetry have to end with 'stdin'? "Unofficial" symmetries are used for apgsearch hacks, mainly. They do generate soups from SH...

it would probably include my discoveries in B2n3-ce4ky6in8/S234c, and my discoveries in several other rules.
The Discoveries section is only for B3/S23, so the Discoveries in Higher Symmetries category-to-be really doesn't have a reason to include other rules.

Older versions of apgsearch incorrectly assumed the glider would be a spaceship somehow. Just gotta wait until apgoucher adds -33435277 gliders to the census.

Right-click the script to open it in Notepad or whatever text editor, find line 290, and replace that line with

Code: Select all

except Exception as e:
(keeping the indentation whitespace), and try that.
