The p1024 was a lot faster, I don't remember the exact time but with 4GB allotted it was more on the order of hours than days. The HashLife friendliness of p1024 helps a lot. Here's another question. Here is a script that, barring any bugs, should construct a strictly volatile oscillator for any period greater than or equal to 949. I've only run it to completion for the p1024 case.
