Is that stupid to suggest to "take it from the other side" and trying to find back ends, then progressing in the sense of direction until the front is complete?

It's worth trying, computers are 1000 times as fast as they were. (And it would be awesome...)

Also, is the mango the smallest still life that can be converted to a glider by a single dot spark? x = 5, y = 6, rule = B3/S23 bo2$2b2o$bo2bo$o2bo$b2o! Equaled by the long ship: x = 6, y = 4, rule = B3/S23 2b2o$bobobo$obo$2o! If you're not too regardant, a ship can create a B&G with the same spark...

Not to discourage you, but glider collisions of all objects under 16? bits were investigated by Koenig... Random though: it would be fun to call it the 'undesigned ark". This is a reference to the fact creationnists try to show that there are natural thing that were designed. This is a "designed object"(and a biblical one, oh the irony) that appeared entirely out of blue. Hence the undesigned ark. (Or m...

Re: Project Alias
The 2c/5's movement is somewhat similar to the one of a tumbler, and you can imagine it's two sides are spinning in opposite dirtections) so I'd suggest a name based on spinning, something like core, rotor, helix, car-washer (now THAT would be a strange name).

Re: Thread For Your Useless Discoveries
Most. Useless. Discovery. Ever. If you draw a diagonal 3-pixel line between 2 loaves, they both flip. It is similar to the "block in a flottilla" reaction: it's only use is to waste your time doing it again (and again)^n, where n is your boredom coefficient. x = 10, y = 10, rule = B3/S23 b2o$o2bo$bo...

Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries
What you posted was a "natural" predecessor that evolves into the oscillator, but may not be easy to synthesize. My idea is something that is definitely synthesizable (one sided), and possibly synthesizable (two sided), with a possible method for how to convert it into the same oscillator, using ar...

Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries
Not quite. The end stabilizers should be beacons. I think the name comes from the fact that the rotor bits flip back and forth between the beacons and the space between the four objects. It was mentioned in Lifeline #3, but it isn't in the wiki or the glossary. It works the same whether the side st...

Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries
The Semifore (synthesis: http://codercontest.com/mniemiec/lg/30pd2bc2.rle ) is probably a good starting place. It shouldn't be too hard to add a second siamese one, with the two sharing one pond. From there, it shouldn't be too hard to peel the outer ponds (or perhaps loaves, if they are easier to ...

Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries
2 "double PIs" colliding in a symmetrical way (fig 1) creates a large pattern (fig 2) made with 2 large on-offs that looks fairly difficult to synthetize the "normal way". By adding a few stabilisators (fig 3) you get a very big billard-table with few gliders (warning: uselessly big stabilisation al...

Re: Thread For Your Useless Discoveries
If you collide a glider with those 2 Blocks and 1 hive, it creates a block and glider, the glider going in sthe same way as the original. However, if you put another block, it will catalyse the destruction of the 3 other SLs and send back the glider. So, the presence or not of the block creates 2 di...
