Re: Suggested patterns for Golly
In terms of the relocation of existing patterns, there's not a lot I think should be moved in the next release, so any potential disruption should be minimal whatever the case. The following moves should be done: - cross-puffer.rle into Unusual-Growth-Rates - whitespace-puffer.rle into Unusual-Growt...

Re: lifeviewer bug
Probably worth pointing out that this change also affects higher-range Generations rules, which is the opposite of what Golly does Fixed, thanks! In this case would it also be possible for the Golly Theme to display 2-state higher-range patterns in the same way (yellow instead of white)? x = 9, y =...

Re: lifeviewer bug
However the actual Golly theme have red and yellow swapped (thus the gradients between them). Fixed, thanks for reporting! Probably worth pointing out that this change also affects higher-range Generations rules, which is the opposite of what Golly does (in this case it was correct before): x = 30,...

Re: Suggested patterns for Golly
A random thought: would it make sense to move the Paterson-Worms, WireWorld and Loops folders, and possibly the Turmites folder, into the Other-Rules folder as subfolders? None of these have particularly much in terms of contents, and since they all rely on RuleLoader this might make more sense anyw...

Re: [Rule]Investigator support in Golly
... a bundled conversion script to convert legacy ExtendedLife patterns (and those in related rules) to [R]Investigator might be a worthwhile thing to include with Golly from now on... anyone want to give it a shot? I can provide what ExtendedLife states should map to each Investigator state, as we...

Re: Suggested patterns for Golly
Given that Golly 4.3b1 appears to be right around the corner, approximately when will the contents of the zip be checked in? After compiling stuff for the OCA replicator collection thread, I've stumbled into a handful of further interesting pattern candidates, but those may need to wait until action...

Re: Thread for basic non-CGOL questions
What is the smallest seed for infinite chaotic growth in this rule? The examples I've found have massive bounding boxes which seem reducible. x = 226, y = 32, rule = B2ce3ci4c/S1c2ce 199bobo$200bo9$o2$o17$225bo2$225bo! x = 78, y = 257, rule = B2ce3ci4c/S1c2ce 75bobo$75b3o221$6b2o$2o2bo2bo$o2bo2b2o$2...

Re: Pattern viewer for forum threads
On this pattern, not all of the bounded grid edge cells are shown, and are only loaded in once a spaceship travels far enough out. If we reset to T=0 afterwards, those cells disappear, but going back to T=1 makes them instantaneously reappear. Are either of these two things expected behaviour? x = 5...

Re: Pattern viewer for forum threads
It appears that saving patterns in higher-range rules attempts to include dead cells, resulting in a different output RLE in what is otherwise the same pattern in the same rule. Note how the top correctly saves a 13x13 pattern, but the bottom saves a 15x15 pattern containing extra state-0 cells. x =...

Re: Pattern viewer for forum threads
This will likely happen when I get round to implementing 1D Totalistic rules. I've been thinking about 1D rules lately, would it be possible to implement 1D totalistic rules as a custom neighbourhood in the HROT algorithm (N1)? Assuming you fill in all survival conditions this should work, although...

Would it be possible to allow cells of the same state to use different icons depending on their position within the grid? Alternating triangle icons would make editing triangular grid patterns far more intuitive in Golly.

Here's an amended zip which contains the replicators from the post above. I've also amended the "unbalanced" folder so that it's split into four categories, which should make navigating its contents much more intuitive.

And here the first version of that zip is. I've created subfolders for orthogonal, diagonal and oblique replicators, as well as an "unbalanced" folder that should cover migratory replicators, directionally biased replicators and those weird Lorentz-shifted cases. In that folder, we use the full nota...

Another very minor issue I've noticed recently is that Select and Paste boxes appear to be offset by a pixel or so once again. Please provide an example pattern. Re: Pattern viewer for forum threads
Here's a technical feature request: could something be added in Help, or somewhere else, which lists the color associated with each "internal" state? It was previously possible to see this via a bug of sorts, in which you'd provide a pattern with more states than the rule expects. However, this meth...

Re: The 1D Replicator Collection
Continued because character limit: This next one makes me question how we classify replicators in the first place. Replicators naturally embed fractals, and fractals all have a hausdorff dimension associated with them. The sierpinski triangle, for example, has a hausdorff dimension of log(3)/Log(2)...
