Re: Golly 3.2

Nice, kudos to everyone involved for your excellent ongoing work!

The latest Lexicon fixes don't seem to have made it into the bundled Lexicon in this release though --- for instance, Sir Robin is still listed as (2,1)c/7 in :spaceship:.

Already corrected (but I can't build/push updated lexicons, so it's not showing up anywhere yet).

Re: Life Lexicon update -- now Release 29, 2 June 2018

Noticed this in a quote on the forum - :sparse Life ... but it is not at all clear that there is any mechanism for these to deal with _the all_ junk produced by switch engines. Thanks --- fixed. (And also updated the "reverse caber tosser" entry to reflect the fact that the best lower bound ...

Re: Building a reverse caber-tosser

Congratulations! I've edited the wiki accordingly, and awaiting Apple Bottom to change the protected number 329 to 59. Oh, oops. The template itself shouldn't be protected -- isn't, in fact -- but I foolishly used it on Template:CurrentNews, which is included on the Main Page, and as a result it en...

Re: apgsearch v4.0

I've made some major speed improvements to object detection in apgluxe v4.45-ll1.54 , lessening the effect of 'tail soups'. Can you confirm whether it beats 3.28 on C4_4 now? I just checked, using the same test seed ("MiAmoreCadenza") as before. Here's the soup timing breakdown for 4.45-ll1.54: 0 t...

Re: apgsearch v4.0

Because it's highly dependent on the soups themselves, you'll get a more accurate comparison by using the -s option to coerce apgluxe and apgmera to have the same seed and therefore run the same sequence of soups. I'd be interested to see if there are cases in which v3.28 outperforms v4.44 on the s...

Re: apgsearch v4.0

@AppleBottom, you were still finding 3.28 to be faster last time I checked. Have you tried testing 4.44 against 3.28 yet? (Since you're on AVX1, I'd expect 4.44 to be much faster than 3.28, at least assuming your architecture resembles benetnasch85's.) I just gave it a try. 4.44-ll1.53 is faster th...

Indeed --- FWIW this is already being discussed on the wiki.

Re: Life Lexicon update -- now Release 29, 2 June 2018

Adding to the pile of work-to-be-done, rather than reducing it --- now that we've got a reverse caber tosser, surely that deserves a Lexicon entry. Should we wait until after v29 and queue it for v30, or is it OK inserting new material at this late stage of the review process?

I suspect that this comment is from a spambot. It's a new user (written only five minutes after they registered) commenting on a thread that's been dead since 2012; the post does not contain any spam links in itself , and while the text is something that could theoretically have been written by a r...

I've followed instructions for now, but have to admit I'm very tempted to delete the whole thread. It's not in the Sandbox, and so far there isn't any content that has any business being in the main forums. Given it's just a spam thread, there is little reason not to delete it outright... and if an...

Re: Soup search results

Thanks! I presume you're referring to the recent B3/S23 speed improvements which take it beyond v3.28? I still have a few ideas about how to make B3/S23 even faster by reducing the instruction count in the iterator. On the subject of speed improvements, 4.4 is still slower than 3.28 for me, or so i...

Yikes, this is a relatively scary one. Apparently there are now Catagolue censuses about non-totaliatic Generations rules, like this one . Re: Thread for basic questions

This probably explains why some people are more insistent than others about editing previous posts vs. double-posting. When a thread on an interesting topic gets used as if it's a chat system, there's always a new notification for the thread even if you just checked it, but then when you go and loo...
