Re: Spaceship Discussion Thread

Is it possible to do an asymmetrical search starting with a significant number of defined rows? I noticed this in the P8H3V0 | 3c/8 search results published the other day. The pattern on the right is the one on the left 8 gens later. x=29, y=18 21bo$20bobo$19bo3bo$2bo16bob3o$bobo19b3o$o3bo19b2o$ob3o...

Re: Synthesising Oscillators

Okay. Was just updating my files by adding the larger pseudo-oscillators and it being missing popped out in the sanity checks.

And it is a bit of an outlier, and easy to overlook.

EDIT:

Here's another problem:

20p3.39 xp3_0q52z122qbgzy256
21p3.86 xp3_0q52z122qbgzy256

It's a 20P3.

One oscillator that seems to be missing from "hs21" is the Tumbler 16P14_j9d0d9j. Or am I looking in the wrong place?

Re: Enumerating Still Lifes (in C)

Thanks for reminding me that I'd forgotten to restart my searches when I got back from a trip last month. I prefer to only run them in the winter months when the processor heat contributes to the inside temperature instead of being something the air conditioning has to remove.

Here's a tab delimited dump from my SQL database. 7783 records. First line has the column titles. Not sure if I have all the 21 bits.

Don't know how helpful this might be, but here's a tab-delimited text file containing a list from my LifeObjects database of 10738 unique rotors, along with my wcode and objID info for the smallest example oscillator. (if I did all the SQL correctly.) EDIT: Updated file to include comment field, whi...

Re: Oscillator Discussion Thread

Years ago I posted a sample of all sorts of ways of constructing P2 oscillators-- https://conwaylife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1038&p=7500#p7500 But I think some of the end-caps you show aren't in there. If you are serious about working on general construction of P2 oscillators, you should defi...

That's what I was thinking of. Thanks. Didn't occur to me to look a little deeper and see if there was anything that required two steps, where the first step adds to what is to be removed. The second step I have is slightly different. Only advantage is that this one is quicker. x=10, y=18 4bo$5b2o$4...

Version 1.0.2 is now available. Mostly a database update. Added 21-bit and 22-bit stable objects, added pseudo-objects up to 16-bit, and updated oscillators and spaceships. Also brought the number of constructions to over 7000, and added several hundred construction component categories. Database si...

If there's a way to covert a [8.5] to [10.4], then it should be possible to convert the [14P2.18] into [16P2.79]. If you'd like to get nice sets of physical polyominoes, see Kaidon Enterprises--

I've bought several sets of polyominoes, polyiamond, polycubes and Penrose tiles from them.

Bob-- Thanks for the archive. Your task is to process these files and reply back to me with only a smaller archive of RLEs, where each RLE there contains a strictly cheaper (better) synthesis of the still life within according to your archive. I will be expecting – I need to fill in gaps that were l...

If you are really serious about physical tiles, and since you want a small variety of small pieces, the one solution for bulk parts is a LEGO store. Over the years I vaguely remember seeing pairs of bi-ponds appearing, but I don't remember the starting configuration, and don't want to dig around to find it. Version 1.0.1 is available. The database now has all stable objects to 20 bits, and oscillators and spaceships to 100. Includes another 100 Glider constructions, and fixed some bad entries.
