BokaBB, please don't report your own Sandbox posts just because you're vaguely worried that the moderators will notice Something Bad and suddenly ban you. If you're that worried about a post, just don't post it. Moderators are not going to spend a lot of time patrolling the Sandbox. The Sandbox was ...

wow - no new nominations ? well, here is static conduit glider-to-loafer converter print head technology... Is this second post a pattern nomination, or no? Re: Golly suggestions

What's the next step now? ... There was some mention of LifeViewer labels. How would those work in Golly? The next step is probably for me to do a trial run of having this script generate readable LifeViewer labels as well as the old-style comments. For variety I'll try doing the ones that only sho...

Yeah, I checked in a Python3 version here a couple of weeks ago, for wildmyron's improved version of the database (duplicates removed, and a subset of 4G collisions added).

Fun fact: The ship that a Herschel creates is from a glider-blinker collision. Suppressing the blinker allows the glider to escape... See HSE19T42 in the Elementary Conduits collection (though it isn't elementary, of course, so it's colored yellow): x = 47, y = 81, rule = LifeHistory D3.D2.3D2.5D3....

Progress I made so far on the above frontend design. It's not much and I'm having trouble figuring out how to complete it. Once the LWSS and XWSS lanes are finished and once the NW glider rakes in the above design is complete (not the blue lone the grey line) I can complete the caterpillar frontend...

Re: Suggested LifeWiki edits

Do we have examples of an intermitting glider gun (or intermittent) that can be added to the LifeWiki? (And also, is it related to regulator s?) There's not really any relation to regulators, which take unsynchronized signals and get them synchronized to some particular period. In an IMG, usually e...

Re: Soup-searching for potentially conduit-yielding reactions

The R-pentomino doesn't have to be formed that way. I tend to include the original reaction that I found the reaction in, but should I stop doing that? No need to stop, but maybe make it a little more parenthetical? "(originally found in this reaction at T=227): [ RLE ]". This one had a particular ...

Re: Thread for basic questions

That being said, if you place your blinkers and pre-blocks very carefully, you can get really-long-lived methuselahs with less cells than that. True... except I still would be very careful not to call those "methuselahs", because at this pattern size, there are still probably more of them than ther...

Re: Thread for basic questions

is this considered a methuselah? Not really. There are probably more different Life patterns of that size that last longer than 36,000 ticks, than there are electrons in the observable universe. A methuselah generally starts with a much smaller bounding box and population than that; otherwise you c...

Is that not 15G, instead of 16G? The glider and pattern shown in the middle step is duplicated in the last step, and the initial blinker comes from 2G. Re: Soup-searching for potentially conduit-yielding reactions

Observe the interaction in the upper-right starting at generation 227... At T=227 you have an R-pentomino heading leftward, and the fishhook turns it into a century, but the century shows up in the middle of a bunch of already-used territory from T=140 to T=160 or so. Why would a century be useful ...

Can there be a LifeWiki page on Hexagonal Life (B2/S34H)? Sure! We didn't create the OCA namespace on the LifeWiki last year so that people would be afraid to use it. Re: Thread for basic questions

how small can a spaceship predecessor get population-wise? and is it affected by the population of said spaceship? I can't think of a good general answer to this question.
