Re: Synthesising Oscillators

I set up a searchable database from a posting of 3 Glider collisions that was published here three years ago. I've found it useful to find candidate 3 Gliders constructions, by searching for final census matches. That Century and Block results in a single Boat. Which is unfortunate, as the database...

Re: The Hunting of the Periodic Herschel Conduits

I guess this doesn't really fit in the periodic elementary conduits thread, since it's a composite conduit made up of a dirty O-to-H plus a bouncer. It's not really a Herschel conduit either until someone can supply a workable H-to-O ... but until periodic conduits get a lot more posts, I would say...

Re: H-to-G and H-to-Gn converter collection

Extrementhusiast's new F193, or rather HFx134B, implies a new H-to-2G -- an NW7T182 glider (which is a new lane for the collection) along with the standard SW-2T21 FNG. I think there are just a couple of H-to-3Gs possible by adding known B-to-Gs directly to the HFX134B -- SW57T399 and NE46T28. They'...

Re: The Hunting of the Periodic Herschel Conduits

Neither P7 nor P8 allow the extra glider to escape... Having to clean up with a reflected FNG kind of ruins the repeat time... but a conduit with a transparent eater is quite an achievement! I would put this in Current News on the LifeWiki, except that I'm having a hard time figuring out whether th...

Re: The Hunting of the Elementary Conduits

Well, the conduit network is already very overcomplicated and I don't really want a four-way general/Herschel periodic/stable split so I think the best course of action is to ask @dvgrn to merge the threads and take Herschel out of the thread topic. I don't think I'll merge any threads at the momen...

Well, the xs15 is asymmetric. Sure, it showed up in a symmetric soup, but as far as I can tell, it might as well have been natural. Heh, look at the post you're responding to again (not the quoted part). For this object there's no longer any need to dive in to those natural-vs.-not-quite-natural ph...

Also test each generation to see if it stabilizes (matches a previous generation). If so, discard that pattern and continue the enumeration. Simply checking whether a pattern matches a previous generation would keep delivering false negatives if the final pattern has two spaceships with different v...

Re: Thread for basic questions

Is the glider synthesizability of any given pattern computable? Technically, by the classic definition of " computable function ", an algorithm is allowed to run forever if no such glider synthesis exists. So I think glider synthesizability _is_ computable -- there's a program that will return a gl...
