Re: Slow Salvo Gliders

To Kiran,
I'm not that proficient in Python (yet) :( , but I'm sure someone else can.

( :!: contains off-topic content)
Where should I post all my Python questions? Is there a thread out there where I can post?

Re: Slow Salvo Gliders

Hello! I'm back. (after a long vacation) This is kind of off topic, but I've been learning Python for two weeks, and I've been able to write this: (with Internet help) from math import floor, log from sys import exit, argv as filename from string import upper, lower from inspect import currentframe ...

Re: Slow Salvo Gliders

I'm learning Python right now. I ran an search for 8 glider block move glider things, or whatever you call it. There were no results that moved the block by (0, 0). (except for the two 7-glider P1 slow salvos) Can someone run the 9 glider search? My computer will overheat after about 4 hours, so I c...

Re: Slow Salvo Gliders

Three questions: 1. Can someone modify dvgrn's program so that the program only outputs blocks that return to their original position? It's hard to look through all the salvos, even with the numbered outputs and the text file. 2. What is the best website that teaches Python? 3. Even if I know Python...

Re: Slow Salvo Gliders

I have another error for the updated program. (It's not the "got NoneType" thing)... I got that error too, but neglected to mention it. If you read the last two lines, it really does tell you what the problem is. Just find at the top of the code where it says "home/user/life/slow_salvo.txt" and cha...

I did no reorganisation of the results but this version of the script outputs lines containing x, y and #gliders to a file specified at the top of the script. Re: Slow Salvo Gliders

chris_c,
Is it possible to organize the slow salvo results based on how far the block moves?
Is it possible to attach the Glue results to your slow salvos to return the block (and then organize them by glider number)?
Thanks for your time and effort!

Yes. Almost. I gave you the link to chris_c's Python-script search program a few messages up, which can easily be adapted to that task. I have chris_c's program, but I don't get what it does. (I didn't learn Python yet) There is a slow salvo hitting a block, and at the end, a glider coming in a dif...

Re: Slow Salvo Gliders

Combine either P2 or P1 block-moves with the 5-glider slow glider-turning recipe from the previous post (which is actually P1) and you should have a toolkit that can build anything you want around any number of corners. If I combine Glue's block-move table with the 5-glider slow salvos, it still ha...

Re: Slow Salvo Gliders

So where are these reflected gliders going to end up, exactly? I wanted to make something where a salvo hits a block, it produces another salvo, which in turn hits another block, and etc. And where are the P1 input gliders coming from, and why can't they be P2? It makes things easier. I could do it...

What are the smallest slow salvo gliders, including P2?
How about LWSS's, MWSS's, and HWSS's?

Re: smallest gun

Here is a trivial reduction of Simkin's Glider Gun to 35 cells. I couldn't find this anywhere else.

Code: Select all

x = 33, y = 20, rule = B3/S23
2o5b2o$2o5b2o2$4b2o$4b2o5$22b2ob2o$21bo5bo$21bo6bo2b2o$21b3o3bo3b2o$
26bo5$24bob2o$24b2obo!
The glider stream has period is 120, and the gun has period 240.

I don't know how to run Python or Perl scripts, so I can't run your scripts in Golly. (I hope I will know how to before next year)

Slow Salvo Gliders

I've been trying to find a slow salvo that when it hits a block, it produces a glider, then restores the block in the original location. Here are some examples. x = 1315, y = 198, rule = B3/S23 1175b2o$695b2o477b2o$b2o158b2o158b2o208b2o158b2ob2o145b2o178b2o148b2o 3bo$b2o158b2o158b2o208b2o158b2o3bo14...
