CAcoin

In cryptocurrencies, proof of work is based on problems that are hard to answer but easy to verify the answer for. Bitcoin uses SHA-256, litecoin uses scrypt, and primecoin uses finding chains of primes. It occured to me that finding interesting CA patterns is one of these problems. Even with people...

Re: Making a RTS based on Game of Life

*Pokes*
I was thinking of something similar, but with a different game system.

Any meaningful progress made on this idea yet?

Idea: object-based life-like CA simulator

This is my idea, not yet an actual program. Basically, the idea is a ca simulator focused on recognizing objects. Before the program starts, it creates a hash and processes a table of common objects into a hash table. When the user draws a pattern into the program, it does the following every turn: ...

Re: What is a replicator?

I agree with the previous post's definition. We could define a number of type of replicators: Replicators that generate debris not essential to the replication Replicators that generate debris essential to the replication Replicators that generate no debris Replicators that blow up with debris after...

Mutual annihilation, block, honey-farm, and pi heptomino.
More specifically, which directions can a glider shift a block?

What is a replicator?

It sounds easy: A replicator is any pattern that produces copies of itself. But hold on now. There are several cases that might or might not be replicators depending on how we interpret this statement: A geminiod thing generates a copy of itself, then throws up a barrier to prevent interference. Thi...

Re: Minor discoveries

What I think is the smallest billiard table configuration possible (in terms of bounding box) (though not proven).

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 5, rule = B3/S23

I mean very fast. My intention is to make them into oscillators. (Get what I'm getting to?)
And someone else share what they would like to be found?

Basically, put what sort of pattern you'd like to be found. Make sure it's not very far off (example of something far off: a replicator).
I'll start.

Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries

I'm certain I'm not the first one to see this, but this constellation of 4 boats is common:

Code: Select all

#CXRLE Pos=0,0 Gen=0
x = 9, y = 7, rule = B36/S23
bo5bo$obo3bobo$2o5b2o2$2o5b2o$obo3bobo$bo5bo!
Can someone find a common predecessor of this?
