Re: Methuselah Definition

Well, a Methuselah is defined by, essentially, the size of the original pattern versus the size of the reaction it creates, right? If we make a standard for this, we will be able to give any pattern ratings based on this, and we can decide what rating makes the pattern a Methuselah. We have not star...

Re: Methuselah Definition

I suggest size to be the area of the bounding box. Comparison of long and short lived Methuselahs in terms of this Methuselah definition. (.xls file) This is a chart without a reason. I could make a chart comparing methuselahs based on the amount of anything, and it would still have this much autho...

Re: Text Strings

So this would be like a repository? Well, if we're getting serious, we should use patterns that produce different sparks and results. I make a very small font (smallest easily legible possible), and made sure that every letter produces a different spark or end result. Here: x = 39, y = 17, rule = B3...

Re: Methuselah Definition

It really just depends on your definition of "size" then. I guess size of end pattern is important, but it can be caused by a short reaction. At the same time, a pattern that lasts a long time can produce a small end result... I think that they should be measured for averages, and then averaged with...

Re: Methuselah Definition

Using the recently proposed polynomino bounding box, I think that system is dependent both on population and on distance (bounding box). The start pattern should be judged by the polyomino bounding box. The end pattern should be judged by the smallest size polyomino bounding box for all periods. So ...

Re: Structures that behave as single cells?

Keep in mind, these are structures that simulate single spaces for cells, in that they simulate cells, but they do not construct new cells or die off.

Re: rectangles

I see what you are saying now. The inside is chaotic even though it forms fractal patterns; the things making up those patterns are unpredictable. Unfortunately it is unlikely that the inside of the pattern will create something that emerges on the outside, making infinite growth very unlikely, but ...

Well, the proof for perfect squares is that in very large patterns, it repeats itself

Go ahead, make a 5000x5000 and look at the corners

I'm not sure how valid this is.

Simple way of doing this:

Set random fill density to 100%

Create selection rectangle, note its size

fill it "randomly"

Randomness distribution

I was thinking about the way that patterns tend to grow, and I came up with an idea: Rather than having a completely random distribution, what about making it randomly random; like this: The selection is divided into a grid of squares, 4x4 or larger Each square has a random number (With a potentiall...

Re: "Reverse Generations" Rules

I apologize for my forgetfulness, but here is a nice little rule table for B2/S0. I'm naming the rule tables "Stalled.BbSsGg" (G=generations until survival) For example, "Stalled.B2S0G1" It doesn't behave particularly interestingly, but new ones can easily be made. n_states:3 neighborhood:Moore symm...
