There is a 6-8 engine corderoid in here somewhere, left as an exercise for the reader. 14 engines (if I counted correctly), definitely optimizable: x = 744, y = 2707, rule = B2cei3-eijr4ceirtw5ciqy6-e7c/S1c2-c3-aiqy4ikntw5nqr6-a 46bobo20bobo152b3o20b3o244b3o20b3o152bobo20bobo$46bobo20bobo600bobo20b...

Re: Intuitive understanding?
Helping intuitive understanding is much more important than "documenting existing common usage". I need a triple like button for this. Part of the reason why I joined the forums is to improve on already-existing terminology, but you have convinced me that the already-existing terminology needs a co...

Re: Wrong answers only thread
A: of course, Haycat2009. You can trust him as "Durnaks don't make empty promises", as he once said.
Right answer alert: but Haycat2009 made a few empty promises, therefore making this an empty promise itself.
Q: Who would you trust least here?

Re: Miscellaneous Discoveries in Other Cellular Automata
I wanted to post this in "Halfway between two Life-like cellular automata", and I did, and TYCF liked it, but I decided finally that the post was irrelevant, so I posted it here... This serves as a lesson that you should never post in the wrong thread. R3 Cross joined the chat This is a rule halfway...

That ship is known. Here's a collection of ships in this rule, which includes 11 different speeds (some are natural and some are found with cfind). I reduced the 2-engine corderoid and added a c/2o. It's not quite clear to me yet if the definition of "transition" is what you're agreeing with confocaloid about, but I'm hoping you can clarify that pretty quick. I agree with confocaloid over the definition of a condition and that of a transition. Here is part of a PM confocaloid sent me regarding...

I'm sorry to say this, but I am on confocaloid's side. I have learned much of CA terminology from them, and I feel that the terminology that they use is very intuitive once one gets the hang of it. Unfortunately, xkcd 927 is a possible issue when creating a new 'Standard CA Terminology'. So I sugges...

Re: Very nearly exploding rules
Why not just make my name for this rule, Hochfakultät des Konfokaloid , an alternative name? Because (a) It's honestly ridiculous. Nobody (including me) will want to use it. (b) It refers to a specific person, which would be already enough to reject it. (c) A person who considered this ruleset earl...

There are no other options for "HighLife" at this point, simply because there is already a ruleset with a widely known, established name HighLife. That is B36/S23. I wrote "HighLife" in quotes. There could be any of B6, B7, B8, S6, S7, or S8 added to Life and it would qualify as a "HighLife" type r...
