Re: (Fun writing) Let's pretend civilisation has just been discovered!
hey, i found the portal from last time, but when i go through it, it'll actually irreversibly send everyone here through it at once. forever. i'm using it now. yay, we're in modern society.

Re: Why so little interest in multistate rules?
i don't necessarily know about others but i personally find the lack of convenient unambiguous documentation of most circuitry rules the prohibitive factor. it would be nice if such things were just included in the ruletable.

Re: Why so little interest in multistate rules?
i somewhat disagree with the notion of "the rulespace is too big to do anything with". i don't think the density of interesting findable rules actually scales like that, as some are implying. or at least not in the case of multi-state rules. it's not too hard to mess around for a bit and create inte...

it is not. S45 were added to make the explosion more interesting. the minrule is not very interesting.

Extend the pattern
Rules:
- pattern must be a still life or oscillator
- do not remove existing cells
- don't extend it twice in a row
- the pattern must not actually be more than one pattern

Has anyone gotten any "higher order" complexity to happen yet? (clarification in post)
So, the cool "emergent behaviours" of rules that arise naturally are actually pretty boring. Usually, this is just in the form of a few common naturally occuring patterns. In any case, it doesn't feel like there's more natural complexity than what's "put into the rule" already. The patterns don't re...

Some rulestring specification thing
I made a rulestring specification that can simulate some things. It might be terrible. The transitions for each state are seperated by a |. A transition consists of many (n):(INT transition list). n is which state to consider. Anything not stated is ignored. An INT transition list just consists of t...

Hello. This is a competition for the "best" siderake in 2-state range 1 INT moore neighborhood deterministic rules according to some criteria. Your siderake must only output on one "side", and must not leave behind other debris. A spaceship is considered created at the moment where it stops interact...

Is there a compelling reason why necroposting is bad?
Making new threads because the old threads are old seems pointless and fragments information. What is actually bad about necroposting?
