Re: Thread for your website-related questions
Due to a French language video on YouTube getting a whole bunch of views, the Discord server has seen a massive uptick in joins... but the forum has had no new members from April 11 to 24 (there's been exactly one today). I don't think it's the change in anti-bot question, as the first half of April...

Golly doesn't yet support INT hexagonal, which makes it a bit harder to work with.

Re: Human-readable alternative to base64-encoded MAP rulestrings?
Unfortunately, there isn't really a compressed way to do it, since base64 is already almost as compressed as you can get, and it's 86 characters. Staying with ASCII, using the 95 printable characters only brings this down from 86 to 78 characters, and all possibilities are used so it can't be compre...

Re: Golly 4.3b1
The more comprehensive collection would be the forum scrape in mid-2023, not the previous version of b3s23osc.

Re: Golly 4.3b1
I've changed b3s23osc in my local copy, but not in GitHub yet, to remove some of the hasslers of more common periods to reduce file size. I would estimate that about 50 to 75 were removed. My criteria for removing: Anything pre-"oscillator revolution" (2021) is kept. Larger bounding boxes are more l...

The five-state rule is much closer to Life than the three-state rule. I would say it's not redundant.

RGB332 feels similar to what I described above. You would still want to increment 75 at a time to avoid similar colors next to each other, though.

When I was coding stuff for my job in Python and had to give random but distinguishable colors, I would essentially have RGB each an integer from 0 to 4, and red be the index mod 5, green increment by 1 every 5 and reset every 25, and the blue increment by 1 every 25 and reset every 125... but the ...

That page is old. E.g. there are Perl scripts listed. If you copy some RLE in a clipboard and select "File -> Run Clipboard" in Golly, then the program shows a message "Sorry, but Perl scripting is no longer supported." Should it be updated? I've complained about this myself. Actual Perl code shoul...

I agree that the rotor should not be reduced, as it clearly needs to be a wick. If the stator isn't minimal, I'm fine with reducing that as long as doing so doesn't make it impossible to tell how to extend it.

Re: Thread for basic non-CGOL questions
In the Immigration rule, is there a color-changing glider reflector? Someone claimed to have posted one, but while it turns red to blue, blue remains blue and doesn't turn red. (Or whichever two colors are used.)
This is why I distinguish "color" and "colour", by the way.
