I hadn't considered it until now, but I'll definitely try! Adding the ability to upload pattern files would be a a good addition to uploading RLEs through the text box.

After doing some changes to the backend for my website, I have merged the collaborative features for CAplayer into the "main site". The collaborative functionality should be up and running, but anyone can feel free to tell me if they encounter issues.

Keeper(?) reaction: Not quite. A Keeper is a pattern which "keeps" something like a still life in a particular place, regardless of is it was present there before. That pattern is a kind of Toggle circuit , similar to the Boat-bit . An example of a keeper would be something like this: x = 14, y = 2...

Re: Rule definition terminology

Looking at the discussion so far, I think we can all agree that there isn't a consensus yet in favor of making confocaloid's proposed substitutions. Now is not necessarily the right time to add a page like this to the LifeWiki -- I'm happy to continue the discussion as long as there seem to be new ...

Re: Rule definition terminology

It seems to me that "transition" is very frequently used with the exact same meaning as the proposed use of "condition" -- so frequently, in fact, that it makes sense to keep existing uses of "transition" in that sense in LifeWiki articles. It looks to me like a lost cause to try to substitute "con...

Re: Rule definition terminology

The passage in the LifeWiki Style Guide does in fact mean that my "descriptive, not prescriptive" statement does not apply to the LifeWiki. Which, in turn, implies confocaloid is completely correct in arguing that LifeWiki articles should be edited for ease of understanding, even if it means replaci...

Re: Rule definition terminology

I don't think I have seen mentioned the fact that websites like Lifewiki are generally descriptive, rather than prescriptive (eg. citing other sources for info). Currently, "transition" is by far the default way to describe rules. I agree that "condition" makes more sense, but as long as the purpose...

How does one prove that it is actually "infinite chaotic growth"? There are similar seeds which appear to grow chaotically, but then settle into well-behaved (predictable) growth instead:
I don't know, it just looks like an explosion. 260,000 generations run so far and no sign of stabilizing.
