Re: Thread for basic questions

Whats the logic or explanation behind the names given to object symmetries? Also.. What's the general standard for the equivalent of "glide symmetry" in oscillators? For example, the "cis-queen-bee-shuttle." At any single step in its oscillation, it's asymmetric. However, it is composed of two, iden...

Why is the "smallest known" P10 oscillator in the wiki so big? There are obviously smaller ones like this monomer of a known oscillator, and known roter with a reduced stator. Both have minimum pop <40. x = 27, y = 8, rule = B3678/S34678 24bo$22bob3o$2o6bo13b5o$5o2b4o7b2o2b4o$b4ob5o7b9o$b8o10b4o2b2o...

Re: Any serious survey of constructions in Margolus Critters?

This probably isn't worth posting but eh, whatever. I found this silly thing the other night while procrastinating. It's a clunky 90° reflector that gets its shape/phase changed every time a glider passes (a whole cycle is 8 gliders). Input must be of the form 8n + 24 where: n >= 0. x = 53, y = 35, ...

Re: Explosive or not

This is a very thought-provoking topic. I'm looking foreword to seeing further discussion. Different types of rules (ie: generations, alternating, hex, n-state... etc.) have their own unique perimeters/mechanisms that can lead to a rule being explosive. For example, you can have two rules that by th...
