Re: Pattern viewer for forum threads

EDIT: Altered the posted RuleTableToTree-hacked.py script slightly, as per discussion on Discord. Hopefully at least we'll be able to move on to a different error... I didn't get an error this time, but at first it didn't look like it actually generated the @TREE section of the file when I tried it...

Re: Pattern viewer for forum threads

Does the original RuleTableToTree.py script work? Are you running a copy of RuleTableToTree-hacked.py saved in that same folder? 1. Nope, same issue. 2. Yes. EDIT: Just moved RuleTableToTree-hacked.py outside of Rule-Generators and now I'm getting this error instead: (note: can't select the message...

3) Run the RuleTableToTree-hacked.py script. You'll end up with a copy of the rule with both @TABLE and @TREE sections installed in Golly's Rules folder, and also copied to your clipboard.
I'm getting an "ImportError: No module named ReadRuleTable" from line 11 when I try to run the script.

Re: Searching in forums

Google actually has functionality to search for specific phrases but unfortunately doesn't advertise it very well. You can also restrict the search to a given site or even a subdirectory on that site. Here's an example if you want to search for the phrase "B conduit": https://www.google.com/search?c...

Re: Potentially new oscillators

Hey, welcome! These both seem to be variants of already known oscillators, specifically cuphook and washing machine respectively (though in the latter case, it's arguably slightly different in that one of the cells causing the births has been moved a bit to the outside, causing the oscillator to req...

Could I get my account trusted too? Messed around with Life for a while but just now getting into the community.
I'm enjoying making glider synthesis for design I can't find one for (though definitely not the first).
Thx in advance.

It's exactly half of the period of the climber (79), meaning the loop takes exactly 2 seconds.

How are mirage flying wing and chehire cat notable Mirage and Flying wing were both tagged for unclear notability at one point, but the tags were later removed because it had been judged that the consensus was to keep them. As for cheshire cat , it seems to be one of the many patterns and general t...

By the way, the name "wings" is confusing for me since it could just be the plural of the following pattern: (RLE)
Don't forget, there's also Wing (spaceship) :P

So should we consider "wings" to be a canonical name or just add a footnote to the wiki page or something else?
I've just created the wiki page at 27P4H1V1 with a redirect from "wings" to there, since as far as I can tell "wings" is only occasionally used to refer to it. Improvements welcome.
