There is another cheaper p47 initiation, but the reduction is not as much: RLE calcyman found this with slsparse, but unfortunately it's too expensive in its current state to be a reduction: x = 1188, y = 328, rule = B3/S23 581bo24bo$581b3o20b3o$584bo18bo$583b2o18b2o3$585b3o12b3o$593b2o$593b2o 2$58...

Re: Thread for basic questions

1) I don't understand the Larger Than Life rule notation. Quoting the wiki: Ssmin..smax specifies the count limits for a state 1 cell to survive. Bbmin..bmax specifies the count limits for a dead cell to become a birth. What are count limits? By "count limits", what's meant is the range of numbers ...

Per this commit, the "main" Catagolue URL is being changed to hatsya.com to make it more accessible for users in mainland China, so it would be nice if the [catagolue] tag could be updated to account for this.

On the other hand, that soup does mean that it is possible for a 2-engine cordership to show up in Catagolue, we'll get one eventually.
Edit: So, in other words, "Theoretically natural".
Every finite pattern is "theoretically natural" if the soups are large enough.

Why is the clock so rare? It's rarer than the pond, despite having less cells and fitting in the same area.
Mainly because the pond has more and smaller predecessors than the clock:

Apparently there's a Shinjuku setting that would enable this very easily, so unlike many of the other tiebreaker metrics, there wouldn't be a prohibitive amount of coding to do. I was going to tell you this but then forgot, but calcyman actually flipped that switch a few weeks ago: https://gitlab.c...
