Re: How to get the codes for patterns?

The script for putting LifeViewers in posts. Well, if you want to make the LifeViewer show up embedded in the post itself, click the "viewer" tag and then paste the RLE inside it. However, this is often frowned upon due to how much space it takes up, so instead it's generally preferred to use the "...

I found this in a soup I made by crashing spaceships and rakes and other random stuff together I don't know if I was the first to find it, but I never saw it before (RLE) Welcome! Just a tip, if you put the RLE inside code tags, it'll produce a "show in viewer" button that allows people to view the...

Crossposting this from the wiki: GUYTU6J has discovered that there are several rules that are currently stored on the wiki as ruletables but which can be converted into either isotropic or MAP LifeViewer aliases.

How did they find Hertz in 1970? There's absolutely no available search programs at that time.
Manual experimentation. Just make an O shape with a 3x4 inside, place a dot inside it in the right spot, and stabilize the edges as you would normally and voila, Hertz oscillator.

Yeah, but the problem is "and thus not counted". If Unix on snacker is known by 1976, how is 117P18 "the first period 18 oscillator to be found"? Pretty much because previous people decades ago decided that LCM oscillators don't really count. For example, Bill Gosper alluded to the existence of an ...

It's also possible to use code from the apgsearch 1.x Python script to perform a local census on some random huge pattern that you've created and run on your system, without uploading to Catagolue. But that takes a little rewriting, I think, unless someone can point to where the census code has bee...
