Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries
Thanks Moosey 1) Still lives are generally not notable, unless you can make a new HBK with them, or if they have some other cool property. Any pointers to a procedure to follow to identify the other cool properties, or how to separate boring discoveries from interesting ones? 2) There are many many ...

Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries
Does anyone know what this is? It's a 44 cell still life that closely resemble the Diamond Ring just below it in this video . It does not appear in the wiki in the list of Still Lifes with 44 cells. x = 13, y = 13, rule = B3/S23 6bo$5bobo$4bobobo$4bobobo$2b2o2bo2b2o$bo4bo4bo$ob4ob4obo$bo4bo4bo$2b2o ...

Thread For Your Naming Proposals of Unnamed Patterns
Trying to find a thread to discuss naming unnamed patterns, my first intuition was to look in the Patterns forum , and try to spot a thread following the "Thread For Your ..." pattern. None came up so created this one. However, there is an old thread with a similar intent: Project Alias But two prob...

Re: Pages with invalid RLE files
it shouldn't be necessary to report very many more missing RLE files in this format. Perfect, thanks for the script. It makes my Life easier :-) I tried to report this process in How to contribute: Pattern Pages . Link to specific edit if you want to check the process is captured correctly: http://...

@77topaz: dang apologies, the first line was an extra line (post edited and removed now, it should be correct).
Very good catch, thank you!

Some pages with missing .rle file (404): RLEs are from Catagolue, except: - the first one (42883M) which is my (hopefuly correct) condensed version of the original post at http://www.conwaylife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=&p=66055#p66055 - Jormungant's G-to-H - Bronco: RLE is missing http://www.conwa...

Thank you so much 77topaz, you nailed it: I missed that the $ end of line character can also be preceded with a number just like o and b.

Re: Empty lines in RLE
Thank you for the quick reply. How would LifeViewer "know" where the empty line is from the RLE file? I apologize if this is obvious to you and I'm missing something, but how can you infer where the blank line is by just parsing the Hooks RLE file? #N Hooks #C A period 5 oscillator. #C www.conwaylif...

Empty lines in RLE
RLE seems to ignore empty lines. Is this a limitation (which justified the existence of other encodings?) that prevents RLE to work with patterns with empty lines, or is my implementation RLE wrong? Thanks Examples: 1. Hooks 6b2o3b$ob2obobo3b$2obobo5b$4b2o5b$5bo5b2$7b2o2b$7bo3b$8b3o$10bo! Would not ...
