John Conway has passed away

According to several sources close to his family, John Horton Conway died today of an illness related to the COVID pandemic. All I can say in this sad moment is that I am happy to know that his legacy will live on through us.

Re: Suggested LifeWiki edits

I found a transcription error in the "untouchable" Lifeline Volume 2 page. The second sentence of the "page 7" paragraph reads In general, these are objects consisting of an infinite stable portion and (if activated) a finite unstable portion and (if activated) a finite unstable portion which 'feeds...

Re: apgsearch v4.0

I would really like there to be an option so that I can avoid search time being wasted like this in the future. I pointed out something similar a few days ago. I don't second the "press a key" idea as all my machines, and I imagine most of them in general, run unattended, but I would definitely app...

Parents

Hi guys, is there a software around to explore/enumerate the possible parents of a specific pattern? The latest, most relevant topic I found here is a 4-year-old thread.

Thank you in advance.

Re: apgsearch v4.0

I've recently performed some runs with non-standard rules and I encountered a problem that might lead to a speed improvement on parallel cpus. Obviously, not all soups are created equal in terms of computation needed for complete elaboration. So it may happen (and it definitely does, especially with...

Re: B3-ry4ckn/S2-in3-cjn4it5aiky6-a7e8

I've started a few test runs on this rule, and apgmera keeps outputting

Code: Select all

Failed to detect periodic behaviour!
Is this normal? The hauls seem to confirm correctly, and periodic forms seem to be reported. What does that alert mean?

Re: Catagolue questions

some other rules I'd recommend would be b36is234j/C1 , b3-ry4ckns2-in3-cjn4it5aiky6-a7e8/C1 and b3-jkn4as1e2-a3ijnry4n/C1 They all look very interesting, I'll devote some CPU to them in the next few days. Presumably RedGolpe's stats are with the parallelisation flag -p, whereas 2200 soups/sec is ty...

Re: Catagolue questions

I'm using 3 machines, though rarely they're all up together. The fastest one outputs 20M soups every little more than 11 minutes. Edit after setup tweaks (also a note to self): Machine 1 - always up - 21M every ~28m - ~12k soups/s Machine 2 - mostly up during the day - 22M every ~14m30s - ~25k soups...

Another question: in the case of "red" links (something went wrong), how can one know how to rectify the problem? They also seem to have been elaborated correctly (see this one for example).

Catagolue questions

Hi guys, I'm exploring Catagolue for the first time, and I have a couple of questions. I'm not sure if this is the right forum, if so please excuse my noobness and feel free to move the thread to the appropriate one. 1. From the user page, one can see the most recent hauls: in the "Root" column, the...

I managed to install apgmera with no errors under WSL and in the process I learnt about WSL itself, which looks pretty amazing. Thank you for your suggestion.

Re: apgsearch v4.0

Thank you for your quick reply. I am definitely using Cygwin64, as the icon unmistakably says "Cygwin64 Terminal". I already tried the solution suggested on stackoverflow, but it generates more errors than the ones it removes: [...] Success! g++ -c -Wall -O3 -march=native -fno-asynchronous-unwind-ta...
