Re: Golly 2.8 has been released

Annoying bug on Win10 64-bit: When I attempt to run a pattern stored in the clipboard, I just get a dialog box with "Sorry, but Perl scripting is no longer supported."

How are we numbering still-lifes?

I'm a bit of a newbie here, so could someone explain this still-life numbering or link to a post that does so?

Re: Golly 2.8 has been released

Unfortunately, what I _have_ seen, several times in the past few days, is the reappearance of an old apparently Windows-specific bug, where some keyboard commands stop working, and clicks on Golly's window are always taken to be clicks in the Life universe -- even if you're actually clicking on a t...

rowett wrote:Do you have an example large pattern that demonstrates the choppiness with spacebar I could try?
You can see it in portions of the built-in Patterns/Life/Guns/loafer-gun-p210.rle.

rowett wrote:I have been unable to reproduce the spacebar freeze. Please could you provide more details?
It's less of a freeze than general choppiness. Also, I've noticed that occasionally in normal usage for larger patterns, it has trouble keeping up with the cell count and just displays ? for several steps.

Is there any API for the forums?

A data dump could also work. Really, any way to retrieve forum contents automatically (apart from scraping the pages) is what I'm looking for.

Re: Golly 2.8 has been released

Running this on 64-bit Ubuntu, I'm experiencing major slowdowns while zooming in/out as opposed to 2.7. Additionally, holding down spacebar for a speed between 0.25s and unit step also just freezes.

As it appears right now, it doesn't even support isotropic rules (or any other non-totalistic rule)...

Re: apgsearch v3.1

My favorite search engine suggests that behind these is likely an ABI mismatch resulting from the calling code and the called code being compiled with (sufficiently) different compilers. But the md5() and sha256() functions are part of apgmera itself, in includes/[md5|sha256].[h|cpp]. So the only t...

Re: apgsearch v3.1

Curious; I'm having no trouble with GCC 5.4.0. Can you post the output you get when you run make? Also, the output of "gcc -v" and "uname -a"? I fixed it by adding #define _GLIBCXX_USE_CXX11_ABI 0 to the start of main.cpp. The output you requested: $ make g++ -c -Wall -O3 -march=native -fopenmp -DU...

Re: apgsearch v3.1

Yeah, I've been doing alternate rules for a while. It started when I found the Catagolue, found B3/S01367 at the bottom of the census list, and decided to run it multithreaded on 6 cores. Recently, however, I got bored of that rule and started running other rules (with one, I had to decrease the hau...
