I like the term "parasite" for those growth patterns that require line stabilization! You've found some very interesting speeds too.

Re: B2/S234 - Oscillators and Wickstretchers Galore!
Nico (glider_rider) just blew my mind with that new spaceship. What method did you use to find all those? I will add the new oscs and the reduction to the collection later when I find a few more spare minutes. EDIT: Here's Alexey's new oscillators stabilized x = 53, y = 14, rule = B2/S234 8bo10bo3bo...

Some other questions which might help diagnosis: Which algorithm is Golly running? (QuickLife / HashLife / RuleTable) What's the maximum memory setting for your algorithm? Most excellent! I will work on stabilizing those and adding them shortly, as well as adding BlinkerSpawn's reduction. Here's a new p3, a new p4, and two new p6's I found in the nearby expansions some of your new Oscillators: x = 58, y = 14, rule = B2/S234 4bo4bo16bo25bo2bo$2bob2o2b3o8bo4bob2o9bo2bo1...

Excellent! I have added those to the collection. This is a a reduced form of your p5, and a new variant on the Beacon-style p2: x = 31, y = 15, rule = B2/S234 2bo2bo19bo$b2ob3o17b3o$2obobo19bo$bobobo19bo3bo$bo3bo2bo12bo2bob5o$bo 3b2ob2o10b4o3bo$bo6bo20bo$bo4b2o13b2o2b6o$bo6b2o12b3o4bo$bo3b4o14bo$bo ...

Whoa, I'm not sure exactly where to look on that picture, but I can try and recreate a couple places that look like they'd be oscillating.
Just updated the oscillator collection with a couple trivial p4 variations and Bullet51's p25.

Haha, we did that at the exact same time too... on the same wavelength I guess. I bet you can find some in the collection if you feel like hunting around a little bit.

You beat out my ninja edit! Wow!! I knew a line worked as an eater but I had no idea that a gun would be possible; That is awesome! The structures can all be reduced in size, I'll work on that momentarily. Great find! B2/S234 - Oscillators and Wickstretchers Galore!
This is a rule I've been having fun with so I decided to make a post about it. B2/S234 is an exploding rule that I like to call "The Machine" because it reminds me of a crazy assembly machine factory. It creates intricate, extremely varied patterns of oscillators and still life architecture as it ex...

Re: 24a/256c (Hex Life)
Note that the rule name will need to end with the letter "H" (signifying Hex neighbourhood) for LifeViewer to default to the Hex view. A welcome inclusion. I'm curious as well if you plan to have the viewer support non-totalistic rules? That could be quite handy for viewing moving patterns in said ...

Golly has bluescreened my computer 3 times.
What the title said; Golly is wonderful, but it has caused my computer to bluescreen (crash completely) 3 times in the past 2 months. It always happens right when I run a really huge or complex pattern so I'm pretty sure it's Golly causing the crash. Also it's happened when I've had Golly open for q...

Re: 24a/256c (Hex Life)
I started work on a browser-based Hexagonal Life simulator that will support RLE import/export, because I haven't yet found one that does all the things I'd like it to do. I'll let people know when it's actually usable. This is great to hear too! I'm glad there are people with the know-how to do th...

No, I like to try my hand at that as well. Enough to download the entire B3/S234 oscillator collection and attempt to reduce everything I possibly could. Yeah ultimately this argument is pointless. It would be better to keep things as the deafult in my opinion, but let's not worry too much about it and focus on the rule that the thread was made for.

BTW, I've finished my battles, but the site still says I'm in conflict. How do I fix this? I even purged the page cache. I've heard of this bug in the past and thought it was fixed. If you contact Samuel Levy via the info at the bottom of the site, he might be able to fix the issue for you. His red...

Interesting, so it's pseudo random essentially. I'd mess around with this rule but I really have no idea what to do in loop rules. Looking forward to seeing something demoed that I can just.. observe.

How does one create a "random" function in a rule file? I didn't think randomness was possible in this engine.

Re: My stupid challenge
I just had a good idea. The best methuselah could be judged as the one not with the MOST generations or size (because then you can make them arbitrarily big), but be the one with the best RATIO of generations/starting area . As an example let's look at some known methuselahs from the wiki. Obviously...
