Thanks for a comprehension reply. I know the command line options, as I have read through the code - just didn't understand the syntax of GOL objects and what they do.

I have been keeping an eye on the thread in PATTERNS about the new glider found, I just got gfind, and it works well. Now, where do I find if something I have found already has been discovered? Also, is there an index that explains the all the c/10 et al stuff that describes all these objects? Thank...

Yea, I did that but the colours didn't reset. I managed to do manually via preferences->colour, but now understand what you mean - crikey, there are options within options to change everything in all sorts of permutations. OK, I will have to mess about a bit to learn the interface better. Thanks for...

Re: how and when you discovered the game of life?
Interesting stuff. I read about GOL in the early 70's somewhere, and me and my mate at school used to mess around with it on graph paper and a pencil - basically just doing the basic gliders and stuff that was already discovered, and, as you can imagine, it took ages to get anywhere, and one mistake...

Now how do I reset the colours to red on black - somehow I am stuck on white and black now after running something from here?
Thanks,

Help with Golly - rules
How can I set Golly back to just use the basic Conway GOL rules - after loading a few things, it appears to stay in whatever rule set was last used - and looking at all the options, I haven't clue what I am supposed to be looking for to do this?
Any help appreciated, thanks,

Amazing thread! I didn't know Golly can do this! If you use the wordsmith anagram page: http://wordsmith.org/anagram/anagram.cgi?anagram=gameoflife&t=1000&a=n and get a list of all the anagrams it produces from "gameoflife", you get this: x = 14, y = 419, rule = B3/S23 7ob3o$6ob3obo$6ob2ob2o$5ob3ob2...
