Re: Geneascopy

I apologise for having ignored this project (and CGoL to some extent, actually) for the past few months. I started my PhD about one and a half months ago and now I am pretty busy. I will attempt to devote some time to this when I have a bit more free time, if that is something I can expect from the ...

Re: Is anyone studying the active part of soups?

Bump. Now I am. To some extent. I am trying to draw some general parallels between evolution dynamics and partitioning of activity in soups, but it looks quite complicated. Currently analysing some large 3% density soups to understand what the initial steps in growth would be in an aperiodic, arbitr...

I have run 120000 scans through 8000 generations in CGoL and I can confirm that, for a larger number of scans, the fine structure becomes identifiable for more generations (even down to generation 5000). I have noticed some interesting behaviour by plotting ln((pop-minpop)+1) vs ln(changepop^2)/2, w...

[UPDATED SCRIPT AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST] geneasco.py I had been toying around with the idea, inspired by NMR, to probe "stuff" (I will expand on this) in CA in a systematic manner that can yield useful results. I was surprised there has not been much study in the dynamics of rules in general and ...

I am not aware of any recent research in that line. It would surely be interesting especially if applied to an arbitrarily low starting density.

I will get back to it tomorrow.
However, I think the focus should now be circuitry design. There are loads of oscillators (like that p29) that look like hassled "things", for "things" that look conduit-friendly.

I do not want a new thread for each and every new "interesting" isotropic rule. They are often randomly stumbled upon, apgsearched for a while and then forgotten. I second this. Only rules with proof for guns, evidence for potential in engineering, unique enough behaviour and so on (so like Movosti...

How did you enumerate through the (x,y,t) displacements of the p58, anyhow? I doubt anyone (me included) has the patience to actually manually evolve and copy-paste it. Then and again, you might... Re: apgsearch - haul requests

So in SI units Rhombic's search speed is 1.96×10^-18 kg K m^2 s^-3. Hang on, shouldn't it be K kg^-1 m^-2 s^-1, seeing as K = J bit^-1 and not K= bit J^-1? If so, it would be equivalent to the differential of temperature gradient wrt moment of inertia. Anyway, back on track, I think exploring B2c3a...

Rule X3VI (B2c3aei4ajnr5acn/S2-ci3-ck4in5jkq6c7c)

Duwyrrofzbpho I have decided to post a new rule as a thread (in spite of my usual reticence to doing so) because I genuinely think this rule deserves more attention. Firstly: several oscillators (p35-60) look like conduits that feedback, so I think conduit tech is possible. Secondly: abundance of pa...

Re: apgsearch - haul requests

Let's coin a new SI unit: "spHz", perhaps. Since "soups" isn't a unit but rather a semantic annotation, wouldn't search speed just be measured in hertz, though? Well one soup is 256 bits, and Boltzmann's equation defines a kelvin to be 9.57×10^-24 joules per bit. A joule is 1 kg m^2 s^-2. So ...
