Re: Virus (B36/S235)
After all these years I never thought such interesting things could be found in this rule. I thought it would just be all explodey and stuff.

Re: A new way to create line puffers
The modification that I posted above is stable for at least 100k generations, and this is the 100,000th generation. Modded Puffer.txt viewer x = 0, y = 0, rule = B3/S23 Oops the pattern is too big to directly paste here LOL Your message contains 601884 characters. The maximum number of allowed chara...

Re: A new way to create line puffers
It seems like your custom side-supports can be shifted 4 pixels in (as long as that diagonal tail is below *correction: the outer pixel of the blinker in relation to the diagonal tail*) and still produce a functionally identical puffer (creating 3 more variations of moving left / right side in & mov...

Interesting Variant:
Code: Select all
x = 3, y = 3, rule = B2ace3acei4ace5acei6ace/S4ace

A discord user that goes by the handle "Dani" provided me with this puffer:

x = 7, y = 11, rule = B2ace3acei4ace5acei6ace/S

All orthogonal lines are a replicator in B2ace3acei4ace5acei6ace/S.

Conquerors and Colonizers (B2ace3acei4ace5acei6ace/S)
Simple rule string that I created when messing around and it's very easily memorable. Any orthogonal line is a replicator and diagonal lines with ends capped with orthogonal lines are puffers. Diagonal masses form cities of sorts and the borders fight quite often. Sample Patterns: x = 15, y = 9, rul...

Re: Create your own terminology
lwss does not completely leave it's previous bounding box before changing theta completely leave means no cells, dead or alive, are under both areas of the previous and current bounding box ie: both bounding boxes must not overlap anywhere There's a fairly easy way to circumvent this issue but I'm ...

Re: Create your own terminology
continuous motion of the center of the bounding box without changing polar theta as a vector expression = same direction otherwise = change in direction the first generation that forces a change in theta = the moment to calculate if that generation left the previous bounding box calculated in the sa...

Re: Create your own terminology
Pure diag ships dont qualify as the change in direction happens before completely leaving the bounding box. If they're high enough period they will leave the bounding box before their mod happens. For instance: #C robbed from a laudrypizza03 post on the 5s project x = 18, y = 18, rule = B2acn3ceqy5...

Re: Create your own terminology
That would severely limit cases where when changing directions, the ship has a different form per direction. (eg: ortho-diag 2-phaser zig-zag ships, 135-degree or 45 degree is ok either way; depending on angle, could be a net-ortho ship or a net-knight ship) Pure diag ships dont qualify as the chang...

Re: Create your own terminology
the center of the bounding box must at least move in the same direction more than 1 consecutive generation in either directions (or even multiple directions...but for now only 2-directional zig-zags are discovered) and at least 1 change of direction per glide cycle EDIT: How about by definition a s...

Re: Prismatika Crystallios (B2ae3r/S1e)
3r apparently changes puffer output characteristics, at least from my rough investigation. Also, I came across this by messin around in the discord group, (someone suggested B2ae3r/S, I thought adding 1e would bring interesting results) 2 years ago I was still on hiatus so I wouldnt have known about...

Prismatika Crystallios (B2ae3r/S1e)
This rule has so many interesting oscillator-spaceship dynamics. Symmetric diagonals die out but asymmetric diagonals oscillate between / and \. Puffers surprisingly exist for a rule like this. EDIT: Puffers are actually rather abundant in this rule. x = 117, y = 127, rule = B2ae3r/S1e 81b6o$75b6o6b...
