To hassle an object is to repeatedly move or change it in a periodic way. For example, toads can be hassled by domino sparks, causing them to flip orientation as in a toad flipper. An oscillator that works by hassling some object is known as a hassler.

For some more examples of hasslers, see baker's dozen, Jolson, and traffic circle.
