A  flip-flop may refer to: one of three (non-equivalent) types of period 2 oscillators:

In the latter sense it contrasts with on-off, which is a period 2 oscillator whose rotor cells die due to overpopulation. The term has also been used even more specifically to refer to phoenix 1.
