P61 Herschel loop 1 is a period 61 Herschel loop oscillator constructed by David Buckingham on August 6, 1996, being the first period 61 oscillator to be discovered. At the time, 61 was the minimumperiod Herschel loop constructible and makes heavy use of eater 2. With the discovery of eater 5 and some related eaters, this minimum was reduced to 57, and periodic conduits enable the construction of period 56, 55 and 54 oscillators.
