Period-45 glider gun is a true period 45 glider gun discovered by Matthias Merzenich on April 29, 2010.[1][2] Its core is part of an agar with 90° rotational symmetry that produces pi-heptominoes. One of the hassling pentadecathlons extracts the output glider with its V spark, and the remaining three (in the original statorless one-barrelled version below) suppress the pi-heptominoes with their domino spark.
Soon after its discovery, Adam P. Goucher and Dave Greene reduced the bounding box with another pi-suppressing mechanism at the cost of higher population. In the infobox is a further improvement by Tanner Jacobi in 2015 with stable pi eaters found by Bellman.[3]
Glider syntheses for the one-barrelled and four-barrelled versions of the original gun (costing 46 and 40 gliders respectively) were posted by Jeremy Tan on January 5, 2020, in response to a less efficient synthesis by Entity Valkyrie using a different method.[4]

In August 2022, the discovery of p45 pi-heptomino hassler led to a smaller period-45 glider gun, which was also the smallest known gun with an odd period until appearance of period-25 glider gun.
