I support a page. It just needs a name. One proposed name was "Ken", as the object being hassled in the p14 is Thompson's methuselah, and Ken Thompson was a (different) computer scientist.
This is the complete list of oscillators using this p14 in my b3s23osc collection. HotdogPi (talk) 15:27, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

Is, not was (you had me worried for a moment before I checked that he was still alive), but why must some oscillators (like this) have names before their pages are created, when others seem to have them created in the {population}P{period} format (which isn't a self-contained bijective correspondence with/canonical description of the pattern (like apgcodes are intended to be), unless it's the only one with its combination of population and period) without second thought, objection or contest? — Preceding unsigned comment added by DroneBetter (talk • contribs) 23:36, 8 March 2023
A reply to the question about pagenames
I believe the Pentadecathlon ID descriptor format is a reasonably simple and quick way to "work around" the need to have pagenames, by supplying a pagename that is (a) short (so that it can actually be remembered and linked) and (b) does not require any particular inventiveness (so that you can avoid spending time and efforts on inventing the name, and continue to editing the page) -- even though the descriptor is subject to later changes (if a population reduction are found) and may not be unique (if there are other objects with same population and same period). Non-uniqueness issues can be handled by making an easily-linkable disambiguation page, that in turn links to pages with longer more specific titles (which are therefore less linkable due to being long). Later changes can be handled by moving the page while leaving a redirect from the old name (since the larger variant continues to exist after a smaller variant is discovered). Other than that, I don't have a particularly good answer to the question about naming. One thing that comes to mind is that it looks as if pagenames are almost unnecessary. The main purpose of a pagename is to provide some way to link to this specific page, as opposed to any other page. I guess in an "ideal world" everything would be nicely integrated. For example, it would be possible to jump directly from a LifeViewer window to the associated page about the displayed object (or even maybe it would be possible to read some historical information and other interesting knowledge about the object directly in LifeViewer). Also the Catagolue object page would be partially editable, so that historical notes about who/when/how found a particular object could be added immediately, as well as e.g. knowledge about how the object can be used in various contexts. As a consequence, I guess in an ideal world there would be much less need to invent names for objects. Confocal (talk) 05:00, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
Actually, the current version of Period-54 pi-heptomino hasslers shows an example of two different oscillators with same period and same minimum population (one, two). Confocal (talk) 15:29, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
