Nonexplosive and salad-like:

Code: Select all

x = 31, y = 13, rule = B2i3/S23-c
5b3o$5bobo$5b3o15b2o$23b2o$26b2o$3o7b3o12bo2bo$obo7bobo12bobo$3o7b3o
13bo$29b2o$29b2o$5b3o$5bobo$5b3o!
Why the p20 is common:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B2i3/S23-c
bo$obo$obo$2o!
Prob. Not useful:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 8, rule = B2i3/S23-c
11bo$10bobo$10bobo$10b2o$2b2o$bobo$bo$2o!
This might be:

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 10, rule = B2i3/S23-c
7bo$6bobo$6bobo$6bobo$7bo4$2o$2o!

Surprisingly, placing a block directly opposite makes that a pre-p30:

Code: Select all

This rule is interesting, nonexplosive, and supports the glider and the ant, along with many other ships. The R is a common methuselah which can be made in 2G:

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 6, rule = B3/S23-c4q
bo$2bo$3o$8bobo$8b2o$9bo!
Misc:

R-to-block, unusual

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 9, rule = B3/S23-c4q

May other life oscs work:

Three diagonal spaceships in this explosive rule:

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 6, rule = B3/S23-c4n
19b2o$8b2o9bobo$7bo2bo8bo$3o4bo2bo5b3o$o6bo8bo$bo6bo8bo!
It's worth noting that before this year, I had completely underestimated the value of removing S3c as a way to tame explosive rules.

EDIT:

I'll have to hand it to this rule. Two natural puffers (10c/30 and 24c/48??) and a slew of technology:

Triple-posting because it's been two weeks since my last post.
This rule, although I've investigated it before, has this failed replicator that I missed:

Also a p30, c/14d, and the glider, which I think I've discovered before:

Where's a tabulation page on Lifewiki summarizing all such rules? Two tables are enough for that purpose: one for rules that differ from life by one birth and one survival condition, and the other for those by both birth or both survival. There're only 51 isotropic (non-)totalistic transitions counting B0, resulting a total of 2*51^2-51 (subtracting for rules 1 transition from life) = 5151 rules.

B3/S23-c4q seems somewhat interesting, it has apart from the glider and WSSes a second small c/4 diagonal spaceship and even in the small number of soups currently in the census there's a natural block puffer.

Oh no, don't do such work, let the not-so-good rulegolfers(me) find them one by one plz.

Nope, making a tabulation is very different from actually exploring rulespace - the tables only provide the possibilities but don't tell you how interesting the patterns within are.

I didn't say that every rule in the tabulation has already been discovered and posted. It's more of a map with labelled but unexplored parts; the map producer is not in possession of the whole area, and the existence of a map doesn't forbid further exploration there.
By your logic, many INT rules belong to someone doing nothing but making a list of them in Hensel notation, which is too ridiculous.

But really, this rule is dying. I can't do anything anymore. I only posted because of dvgrn.
That kind of attitude is the only reason Conway's Life has orders of magnitude more discoveries than any other rule. Somewhere around 1971 John Conway basically tried to say that B3/S23 was dead -- but then a bunch of unreasonable people refused to believe him.

LeapLife today is about where B3/S23 was in 1971... well, maybe not quite that far along. By 1971 there were more people doing fairly good systematic searches in B3/S23 than LeapLife has seen so far.
Really, the same could be said again to almost every rule in this thread;
Have we emphasized tlife, Just Friends or Snowflakes sometime?
