Methuselah from Gliders
Methuselah from Gliders
Hi,
I just found out about Conway's Game of Life yesterday and found this forum today. I am extremely fascinated by this game.
While playing around with glider patterns, I found this pattern of two adjacent gliders that is a methuselah stabilizing in 1,147 generations as 14 blinkers, 24 blocks, 4 beehives, and 2 boats. I'm not sure if it has been discovered yet; it does not match any of the patterns of 10 cells listed in LifeWiki.
I notice that the posts in many of the other threads in the forum contain patterns apparently represented by a code. Unfortunately, I can't discern what the code is, so I'll have to present this pattern as an attachment; sorry about that!

Re: Methuselah from Gliders
The pattern you listed is not really made of gliders, since there is no separation between the cells.
The code is useful if you are using a life program such as golly. Copy and paste a code like that into golly, and it will be converted into a pattern.

What's golly?

Re: Methuselah from Gliders
That looks...extremely complicated. Can someone just inform me a little on what it basically does?
Re: Methuselah from Gliders
It is a computer program that runs the game of life.
Re: Methuselah from Gliders
It's a cellular automata simulation program that does, among many other things, the same things as the applet on this site (also much faster).wylx wrote:That looks...extremely complicated. Can someone just inform me a little on what it basically does?

Your quadpole synthesis is impressive!
What do you do with ill crystallographers? Take them to the mono-clinic!
