If a link to the spaceship stamp collection is added to the first post I'll try to keep it up to date
Will do. The p8 is neat, was it found with a search program?

I don't see the new spaceship syntheses in the updated synthesis collection. Also, the t+halfbakery based synthesis I found isn't in there either.

The second component first appeared in my second post on the first page of the Close Life Variants thread; sorry.

Turns out that A for Awesome's first B->G and the most recent T->G reaction I found are both edge-shooters.

Code: Select all

x = 83, y = 37, rule = tlife

I used both in this probably-too-large gun for the 'disemiMWSS' (the T->G is actually a better edgeshooter, but I didn't realize until I'd already finished the rest of the gun):

I think there should be a stamp collection for spaceship syntheses separate from the regular one; here's a first go at it:

Nice! How did you find them?
M. I. Wright wrote:The p8 is neat, was it found with a search program?
Some time ago I was working on a version of apgsearch for non-totalistic rules. It's been unused for a while but I thought I should dust it off for this rule. In particular, the addition of searching in symmetrical soups found the p8 as well as a few other oscillators with D4 symmetry.

There are still quite a few issues with searching non-life rules that I don't know how to deal with. This has deterred me from posting a version of the search tool publicly, but I would like to work through some of these and get a version out there. I hope to post more details on the Hacking apgsearch thread soon [No guarantees]. In the meantime, some more results posted below.

Will do.
Thanks for the link. I updated the collection with the skewed variant of the 2c/4 and updated it again to switch the rule back to tlife. I also added a separate collection for diagonal ships - currently c/4 only.

Here are some results from soup search. I've also adapted a version of rgsearch to this rule and some of those results are included as well.

So, the c/3 synth above would normally be counted in CGoL as 9G due to the block that is left over. (indeed, many of the synths are listed under the number of gliders without cleanup)

However, I've found a faster, more direct synth in only 8G with cleanup:

Code: Select all

x = 24, y = 26, rule = tlife
19bobo$19b2o$20bo3$4bo$2bobo$3b2o2$17bo$16bo$16b3o4bo$21b2o$22b2o6$11b
o$2o10b2o$b2o8b2o$o$14bo$13b2o$14bo!
Synthesizing the ship itself only uses 7G with this method.

I have to say that this was based on wildmyron's synthesis, as I did not realize such a method was possible. I had to design a completely new spark for the back half of the ship because the other one came from a complicated mess.

I took a shortcut there and didn't actually include the cleanup glider in the pattern, but the synth is 7G plus 1G for cleanup. I think I placed a few of them a bit too close together making it difficult to distinguish which gliders belong to which syntheses. A few of the others have a separate cleanup step - 15-bent-paperclip in particular where one glider is used to cleanup an emitted glider and the leftover block. I believe I do have the glider counts correct.

That's a much nicer synthesis than the other one which came directly from a glider soup identified by my adaptation of rgsearch.

Those were very nice syntheses, wildmyron, but I was surprised to see a six-glider B synthesis when only two were needed for that.

That's not a 15-bent paperclip, as its population isn't 15.

Ha! I'm not very good at noticing these things. As above, this one came directly from a rgsearch result with only a bit of cleanup from me to remove non-contributing gliders.
gmc_nxtman wrote:That's not a 15-bent paperclip, as its population isn't 15.
15-bent paperclip refers to the previous synth in the 8G row. I referred to this one as "another 18-bit SL"

A final step for a synth (probably overkill):

The loaf+2G eater synth is evidently really edgy:

Code: Select all

x = 67, y = 36, rule = tlife

By the way, lots of new stuff in the synthesis database.

Here are the other oscillators I've come across - two p3 and one p5. I haven't verified if they are new or not.

Code: Select all

x = 31, y = 28, rule = tlife

Not sure where I came across the ones with plus symmetry (can't find them in apgsearch logs - contrary to my recollection), but here's a soup for the p3 with C4 sym:

Code: Select all

The 5S project (Smallest Spaceships Supporting Specific Speeds) is now maintained by AforAmpere. The latest collection is hosted on GitHub and contains well over 1,000,000 spaceships.

Semi-active here - recovering from a severe case of LWTDS.

The p5 comes in two different forms, one with a very isolated dot spark and the other with a very isolated domino spark:

Code: Select all

x = 27, y = 14, rule = tlife
