Re: tlife

Postby wildmyron » October 9th, 2015, 4:26 am

Here's a stamp collection of the currently known orthogonal ships organised by velocity and period. I haven't been completely thorough in searching this thread for known ships so I may have missed a few - please let me know if that is the case. I also haven't tried to give attribution in the stamp collection, mainly because I don't have a good way to reference all the ships yet. Suggestions? As a bonus, there are a few ships I've found: several slightly longer variants of the known c/2 ships and a p4 c/2 which is almost identical to Life's "mwss on mwss 1" in one phase; another c/3 very similar to the two asymmetrical ones already known and a few more at c/3 with odd bilateral symmetry; and two 2c/5 ships, with odd and even bilateral symmetry.

Edited to add: a (boring) interaction between two almost-"mwss on mwss 1"

Edit: corrected erroneous description of p4 c/2 as similar to Life's "hwss on hwss 1"

Edit: added stamp collection for diagonal ships

Edit: big update and added acknowledgements; removed glider + 2c/5 interactions for clarity

Whoa, I missed a ton! The Schick puffer and breeder are especially nice.
wildmyron wrote:Here's a stamp collection of the currently known orthogonal ships organised by velocity and period. I haven't been completely thorough in searching this thread for known ships so I may have missed a few - please let me know if that is the case.

There definitely aren't any you missed - the only ships before this post were the c/2 I found early on, its variant(s) with different back sparks, and EricG's gfind finds, all of which you've included.
a p4 c/2 which is almost identical to Life's "hwss on hwss 1" in one phase

Awesome! I'd say it's more like MWSS-on-MWSS, though, because of the belly spark and length.
Does it look synthesizable? This phase
x = 9, y = 5, rule = tlife
3o3b3o$o2bobo2bo$o2bobo2bo$2obobob2o$o7bo!
looks familiar, although I can't put my finger on it.

Going back to the sawtooth idea - is there any chance that a 2c/4 rake could help make a moving one? It could also help if a sparky sub-c/5 ship were found.
I also wish there were a way to search for diagonal ships, since a switch-engine-esque puffer/rake could help with the original sawtooth design:
x = 37, y = 41, rule = tlife

o$19bo5$9bo$9b2obo$10bobo$11bo5$bo$b2obo$2bobo$3bo3$bo$obo$b2o!

edit: I don't think there are any interesting reactions with a glider and the 2c/4 ship; the ant and T are better, though.

Great work finding those puffers!

Thanks for the confirmation. You're right, it definitely is more like mwss on mwss 1 - I didn't double check after converting the modified pattern to standard life and it had evolved into hwss on hwss 1 instead. I've corrected the description above.

Here's a further reduction of the bi-boat synthesis resulting in a 14G synthesis of the disemiMWSS (12 if you count the t-ship as 1G).
x = 124, y = 17, rule = tlife

98b2o21b2o$97bobo21bobo!

I stumbled across this whilst exploring the idea of synthesizing the ship from a pair of t-ships instead of from a pair of Bs.

Edited to add: Here's a (probably not very useful) c/4 diagonal ship which is glide symmetric. The frontend is interesting though and looks like it could be split in half as a smaller glide symmetric ship.
x = 17, y = 18, rule = tlife

7bo7b2o$4b3o6bobo$4b2o2bo5bo$6b3o$6bo3bo$10b2o$8bobo$9bo!

Found using Paul Tooke and EricG's modified gfind. I specified f400 for the search which is still running. Hopefully something sparkier will turn up amongst the myriad of glider + ant combinations.

Oops - I guess I really wasn't paying much attention to the actual period of the thing :oops:

That was the hardest synthesis I've ever made, though. (I spent several hours on one method only to run into an unsurmountable wall that I hadn't expected - I was ready to upload yesterday when I checked one last time and found it didn't work at all)

By the way, Jackk's glider gun can also be used as an inserter in some cases, such as a period-80 gun:
x = 37, y = 29, rule = tlife

14bit SL ("?14-mango with bend tail" in Catagolue) in 3G + 3T

Not sure if this p8 with min population of 20 is known:
x = 9, y = 7, rule = B3_S2-i34q

Has someone put up a stamp collection with oscillators yet?

If a link to the spaceship stamp collection is added to the first post I'll try to keep it up to date, and probably add diagonal ships once a few more are found.

Useless little thing: two p160s collide and collapse into 4 gliders.

x = 18, y = 8, rule = tlife

Nice! How did you find them?

Is a synthesis possible for the skewed variant of the 2c/4?:
x = 13, y = 8, rule = tlife

x₁=ηx
V ⃰_η=c²√(Λη)
K=(Λu²)/2
Pₐ=1−1/(∫^∞_t₀(p(t)ˡ⁽ᵗ⁾)dt)

$$x_1=\eta x$$
$$V^*_\eta=c^2\sqrt{\Lambda\eta}$$
$$K=\frac{\Lambda u^2}2$$
$$P_a=1-\frac1{\int^\infty_{t_0}p(t)^{l(t)}dt}$$

If someone can place these snakes, then yes:
x = 21, y = 22, rule = TLifeHistory

This method is based on the preblock + G = LWSS reaction in normal Life, but I had to modify it heavily to adapt it for use here. Keeping junk and interactions at the back from destroying the ships was frustrating and was solved mostly due to luck - there's only a couple generations you can attack it with gliders before they're doomed, and you have to also avoid destroying the front of the ships...

I tried another method with eaters first, which was far cleaner, but an interaction between the two halves at the back killed the ship and was clearly unaccessable, and so I had to scrap that method.
