I found some new turtle tagalongs:

Code: Select all

x = 14, y = 30, rule = B3/S23

I've just find those tagalongs... But they're new.

The fourth one can be considered a new spaceship! Want to name it?

The fourth one should be called "tortoise", because it is similar to a turtle, but has different legs.

I think that would work as a name. Let's get a mod to check if this is truly original.

Shucks, why do the mods have to do the work?

60-bit c/3 spaceships are common enough that there are too many of them to fit in a reasonable-sized stamp collection. See Golly's Patterns/Life/Spaceships/c3-orthogonal.rle -- it stops at 50 bits, and things are already getting a little crazy there.

I can't find offhand that "tortoise" has been applied to anything, and I haven't found an exact copy of that 60-bit spaceship. However... Sokwe might know better than I, but my guess would be that this spaceship has been found several times by various searches, but was then discarded as being too big to be worth collecting.

Spaceships with smaller bit counts or smaller bounding boxes are usually considered to be more interesting than larger ones. Maybe a good way to think of the naming question is that it might make sense to assign an official name to every spaceship in c3-orthogonal.rle, and also every spaceship in the 51- to 59-bit range, before it makes sense to name this particular 60-bit spaceship "tortoise".

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the 4th one is already in JS life.
