Thanks for the links. Are we allowed to suspect that the Overweight spaceship is an imposter here ? Myaybe we are continuing the sequence wrong ? Is there a fourth member that unlike the Overweight spaceship is actually an spaceship ?confocaloid wrote: ↑February 19th, 2024, 4:38 amOWSSTinkerMagus wrote: ↑February 19th, 2024, 4:37 amDoes the pattern of lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight spaceships continue ? Re: Thread for basic questions
The simple answer to your question is a great big NO !
But I know where you are coming from - I am trying to extend the Queen Bee "Family" -
to the next "size", which would be the KIng Bee !
Bigger SpaceShips require support/stabilization, so our XWSS "family" comprises only the three.
But your interest, I am sure, will lead you to some interesting stuff !
Cheers !

Thanks for the welcome. Just read about Queen Bee and its stabilization methods and I was like who figured a block can eat a beehive and how !otismo wrote: ↑February 19th, 2024, 8:46 amWelcome to our Community Tinker Magus !

What a fascinating project to search for the King. Inform me if you got anywhere. We don't even know how many beehives it will make before replicating itself. That is if it exists after all ! But as you said, even if it doesn't exist we might find some other interesting creatures searching for these missing members of these families.

Re: Thread for basic questions
I'm guessing 37.02% (based on mean field approximation).
Also, am I right to say that mean field theory gives a good approximation of the density of a spacedusty pattern in OCA?

Re: Thread for basic questions
I tried to answer your question. I was originally thinking of something relating to the envelope, but ships don't really have an 'envelope' per se, so I oscillatorified the ship (using your very helpful shipvol script) and got this:confocaloid wrote: ↑February 25th, 2024, 2:02 amWhat is the expected answer for 232P7H3V0?Code: Select all

Re: Thread for basic questions
TinkerMagus wrote: ↑February 22nd, 2024, 3:59 amThanks for the welcome. Just read about Queen Bee and its stabilization methods and I was like who figured a block can eat a beehive and how !otismo wrote: ↑February 19th, 2024, 8:46 amWelcome to our Community Tinker Magus !
Cheers !
What a fascinating project to search for the King. Inform me if you got anywhere. We don't even know how many beehives it will make before replicating itself. That is if it exists after all ! But as you said, even if it doesn't exist we might find some other interesting creatures searching for these missing members of these families.
Mainly the discussion is on page eleven of the otismo thread.otismo wrote: ↑October 7th, 2023, 6:59 pm@ HtH :

CGoL is most fascinating when you make all the discoveries yourself - even "Gosper's Glider Gun" !
CGoL can get way too trivial way too fast - when you conceptualise in your head and make no patterns to share...

To evaluate the current condition of the central cell, calculate the sum of weights of all alive cells in the neighbourhood. For example:
- If the central cell is alive and has 7 alive neighbours, including two orthogonally adjacent, one diagonally adjacent and four "outer" neighbours, then the current condition of the central cell is S(2 x 85 + 1 x 17 + 4 x 1) = S191.
- If the central cell is dead and has 6 alive neighbours, including one orthogonally adjacent, zero diagonally adjacent and five "outer" neighbours, then the current condition of the central cell is B(1 x 85 + 0 x 17 + 5 x 1) = B90.
In this example, the living conditions are defined as follows; in particular, S191 belongs in the set, but B90 doesn't belong.
Code: Select all
S34-67,102-135,170-203,255-271
B51-67,119-135,187-203,224,229,255-271,292,294

Re: Thread for basic questions
Thank You !
EDIT :
this is from LifeWiki, Maximum Volatility Gun :
The maximum volatility gun is a single-barrelled period-177 glider gun found by Jason Summers on October 22, 2009,[1] using many copies of Karel's p177 to generate gliders via pairs of passing spaceships in an out of the blue reaction. Most of the gliders are then reflected back to rebuild the spaceship stream.
This is one of only a few known guns in Conway's Game of Life with volatility 1, i.e. guns in which every single cell oscillates. Other smaller examples include the period-45 glider gun supported by pentadecathlons, period-88 glider gun supported by figure eights, The former smallest p46 glider gun supported by a statorless stabilisation used in 50P92.1 and even Gosper glider gun supported by ouroborous bees.
This is one of only a three known gun periods in Conway's Game of Life with strict volatility 1, i.e. guns in which every single cell oscillates at the same period. The other two examples are Gosper glider gun supported by ouroborous bees and period-86 gliderless MWSS gun using the H-to-MWSS supported by a pair of strictly volatile p86s.
EDIT TWO :
and here they are, The Ouroborous Bees :
Code: Select all
x = 24, y = 24, rule = B3/S23

Re: Thread for basic questions
Presumably, it's a Gosper glider gun, but where you'd normally have a block at each end, you have a instance of Ouroboros bees instead.

Re: Thread for basic questions
Wow -- this was something that got discussed on the first page of this Basic Questions thread. But I can't seem to find any prior art, in terms of an actual pattern with ouroboros bees cleaning up beehives.
They must be out there somewhere, but they're not turning up for me. It's easy to re-create a sample, though:
Code: Select all
