Solving Conway's Life puzzles is fun, but explaining the solutions clearly is hard work...!Apple Bottom wrote:The Life wiki's a great start, perhaps that could be leveraged?A for awesome wrote:That is a real problem with the state of modern-day Life. It might be useful to have a "User's manual to Life" that contains all the information one needs to start contributing at a high level.
1) more articles about "components" — e.g. individual Herschel conduits, individual glider-reflecting or junk-pushing reactions — as opposed to just "finished" patterns. Even very minor perturbation reactions — like preblock + glider > LWSS — would probably deserve articles.
2) more articles about elementary (sub)patterns, as opposed to big flashy ones. There's a fair amount of glider reflectors documented, but e.g. simpler guns/rakes or simple glider synthesis transformations are mostly absent so far.
3) more detailed articles about common seeds like B-heptomino or traffic lights, including breakdowns of different ways to perturb them.
